I was just wondering if anybody is picky about the socks you wear? If you are, what are they?

Yep, and I'm shopping.
I've used Filson and Bridgedales. I'm also looking at Ulfrotte's, Thorlo's, and Icebreakers; based on chatter here.
I was going to start a "vs." thread for those...

Thorlos (Hiker)is all I use. I use them with the poly pro liners that Cabelas sells, those are also the only liners I will use. Its weird but when all your hunting boots fit with a certain combo of socks/liners I dont change up. Never had a blister issue to this day with the above combo, and it takes good care of my feet.

Lorpen.
TEC for summer/early fall and heavy hiking. NOT warm but dry fast. TET for warmth when I'm going to get wet TEL for lots of warmth when I'm probably not going to get wet
Very densely constructed socks. I've got a pair or two that are 3 years old and still get worn and washed regularly.

AlaskaCub, do the hikers come in an over-the-calf variety?

P.S. I dumped my whole "sock drawer" not long ago, and started replaceing each pair of white, cotton socks with a pair of Lorpens. It took a while, but otherwise I would have held onto those things "just in case" forever. It's hard to think about, but feels good once it's done...
I used to wear Thorlo exclusively, and thought they were pretty good socks at the time as well.
Dump 'em and start over!

The perspiration is what has me shopping. I gotta cut that down because I'm getting way to cold from sweat.
I'm going to start monkeying with liners, too.

AlaskaCub, do the hikers come in an over-the-calf variety? No, but the poly liners I wear are over the calf.

I just recently(snow shoeing last weekend) tried the antiperspirant stuff on my feet, it seemed to help out some.

340boy,
By that you mean that you sprayed Right Guard on your feet, right? I've heard it helps a lot.

I normally wear Cabela's Ultimax with Cabela's liners and they work real well, especially in real cold temperatures, the only problem being that my feet sweat.
I've got some Thorlos as well, they are real nice, haven't worn them too much hunting, since my sister stole two of my three pairs.

I have been spraying the feet with Right Guard Antiperspirant, and putting on some polypro X-static liners under SmartWools.

I use Thorlos with a polypro liner. I wear these in my hikers, workboots , they suit me well and no problems even on extended 14 day sheep hunts. I started wearin them from a recomendation from??? on the old Hunters site. just wish I could thank him again.

Lorpen are usually a Polyamide base with a combination of either Thermolite or Merino, then 15% Lycra.
The summer socks are much similar, except Coolmax vice Thermolite or Merino.
Then varying thicknesses, toe box thickness features, heel features; the usual, from what has become a very competetive market, I guess because lately all socks are pretty decent, right?

Smart wool with poly liners I wear this combo all year including snowshoeing. That must be why there are so many sock mfg so we have so many choices.
If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.

I like the REI brand Merino liners with Ultra Max Socks by Wigwam over them. Ran a marathon in them and wore them elk hunting.
