Let's make it on the 99th anniversary, that way I'll be there too...
Mighty cool round. Pisses me off when some refer to the 308 as a 'new invention!'.

I have a Remingtion Model 81 autoloader in 300 Sav and it is a joy to shoot. I've killed a deer with it, but I don't take it out in the woods as much as I should.

AWS died in 1941. Savage and Stevens moved in together in 1947. The big sale was to Emhart in 1963.

AW,
i look at the .308 as just another incarnation of the .300. it is about as useful, about as efficient, and, with it's military background, has about as much rich tradition as the .300... even if it hasn't been around as long..... i've hunted with a 99 .300, and i've shot a couple of 99 .308s... don't believe that i'd give you a nickel for the difference in how they shoot....
the real difference, in my eyes, is that all the really nice looking 99s appear to have been made before the .308 was introduced..... john w

RonT; I am using the 308 Winchester brass for a few reasons. First, I have a real pile of Federal Match brass, once fired, all of one lot number. Second, I do not own, nor plan to own a 308 Winchester, so no problem with headstamps. Third, I cannot get brass as easily up here in Canada as you can, and our two Governments have conspired to make it impossible to ship brass to an individual in Canada from the U.S.A. I do have some 300 Savage brass, and it is available at inflated prices, but this is an easy solution for ME, and I don't mind spending the time to do it this way. Just so you know the "whys" from my point of view. Regards Eagleye

Eagleye...
Ahhh... thank you for the explanation, even though you didn't "owe" me one. I wasn't criticizing, but rather wondering why you'd go through the trouble of changing .308 Winchester brass into .300 Savage brass, but now I understand your reasons.
