Yikes! Its seems the folks at Big Green have discontinued the XR-100 Rifle! I just picked up my 2,008 Remington catalog and was hoping they would have expanded the offerings (17 Remington Fireball) in this Model, but NO, I could not find reference to the XR-100 anywhere in the catalog! I just called Big Green and in moments I learned the sad fact that they had indeed discontinued this nifty Rifle. Sheesh I thought. I have two of these wonderfully accurate, well fitting and handsome Rifles and I could not be happier with them. The "person" on the line at Remington with me would offer no reason why they have been discontinued. I own the XR-100's in 204 Ruger and 223 Remington and the only other caliber I have seen them advertise or offered in was 22-250 Remington. I have some "mad money" on hand so I better get busy and find one in 22-250 before they dry up. Puzzling this decision by Remington as all the ones I have seen on store shelves ended up selling! Many of my friends have these Rifles and shoot them with pleasing results - at least I have not heard any complaints from them. Yikes! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

17ACKLEYBEE: I am sure he does. I wish I had known of this discontinuation while I was out on the coast. It would have saved me a LONG drive to Idaho Falls (145 miles each way) to find one. Plus it would have saved me the 8% Idaho sales tax! Oh well. Johnny as I type this its 17 degrees out and there are 61 Mule Deer out feeding in the field adjacent to my home! Which is nothing compared to the field at my neighbors place. They are in Thailand on vacation and I counted over 600 Mule Deer in the double pivot field by his place! The field was just black with Deer. From over a mile away it looked like the field was carpeted! The Mule Deer, Antelope and Elk have been "hanging close" to "civilization" since the Wolves have been introduced here from Canada! No more "foothills" crap for them (the Deer and Elk) they know the Wolves are more hesitant to come near "civilization" to do their handiwork. Maybe I should give Ron a call and see if he will put one on hold for me? Blazing sun here but its still cool. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Quite frankly, I was not impressed with the XR-100. It just seems to be a cheaper version of the 40XB. I thought it took nerve of Remington to start calling the XR-100 a "Rangemaster!" I remember seeing the review of the XR-100 and the people shooting them getting one-inch groups and talking like that was good at 100 yards. Give me a break!!!

Dennis Mickey: How well (or poorly!) did your XR-100 shoot? My XR-100 in 223 Remington has now averaged .378" groups (all 5 shotters at 100 yards!) since the day I brought it home! This includes all load test groups! And my XR-100 in 204 Ruger has averaged .464" groups (all 5 shotters at 100 yards!) since day one and this AVERAGE includes ALL (every!) groups it has made both with FACTORY ammo (2 types) and includes ALL load development loads! Based on the results I have had with these two Rifles and personal observations of several other XR-100 owners and their results I would not hesitate to buy another or recommend someone buy one! Both my XR-100's have Leupold 8.5x25 variable scopes on them and I never shoot any of my Rifles for group on windy days. I hold off for dead calm conditions. I would not be very pleased myself with 1.000" groups. I have seen several reviews where accuracy of the tested XR-100's was better than 1.000". Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Didn't mean to confuse you but I wasn't impressed with the XR-100 so I bought some 40XB's instead. Very accurate rifle (much more accurate than I can shoot!) I have seven of them in my gun safe with one more on order and one at the gunsmith's being rebarreled (didn't like the original caliber so I'm having it rebarreled to 6mm/250.)

Dennis Mickey: I am not confused I was just wondering how your XR-100's shot. I also am an afficianado of the Remington 40X line and have several of them including one in 222 Remington, two in 22 Remington Benchrest, one in 22-250 Remington, one in 220 Swift, one in 6x47, one in 243 Winchester and one in 6mm Remington. Long live Big Green! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

When I said that I wasn't impressed with the XR-100's I meant that I did not buy one. Why would you own two Remington 40XB's in .22 BR Remington? I know how accurate the caliber is but doesn't that make keeping the brass separated for the two rifles a bit complicated? By the way, do you have any with the thumbhole stock option?
