I have been told that the latest issue of Guns & Ammo has an article in which states that Winchester will be releasing their next two cartridges in their WSM line. They will be the .338 WSM and the .257 WSM. If this is true then I can see that there will be a WSM in my near future. I love the "Quarter Bore" caliber so if I can find a .257 WSM that has a blued barreled action, box magazine(no clip magazines for me), a 24" barrel(26" would be even better) and a real wood stock(walnut preferred - no laminates or plastic(synthetic)) then one would end up following me home. Has anybody seen the latest issue of Guns & Ammo and can confirm this? Lawdog

I haven't heard anything for sure yet but wouldn't doubt it. They were polling gun writers last year about what new calibers should be introduced. There has been pressure for a .338 since the beginning, but the consensus in the polling was for a .25 as well.

Why would they pole gun writers, they don't know what the public wants. Gun writers don't have to buy their guns either...in most cases Just teasing you mule deer. I would think poling the public would be a better method of getting the facts, but how would I know? Flinch

Ummm, Flinch if you go to Winchester's website they have been running a public poll in regards to the next WSM for months.
Is it Friday yet?

Got a 270 WSM on order now and I can't wait until it gets here. Of course, if Winchester offers the 257 WSM, I'll make sure to find a spot in the safe for one of those as well.

the general public buys one rifle, a 270 or '06 so most hunters would not know what a wsm is. places like this forum are unique. 99% of the hunters I have associated with over the past 20 years could care less about rifles and reading hunting magazines. they all think I am nuts!

Flinch--
You're right, a lot of gun writers don't know what the public wants! Look at my buddy Bryce Towsley, who's pumping for a .35 WSM, when .35's are poison on the U.S. market.
I don't think rifle loonies are very good at this, either, though. I'd bet the 6.5 WSM would come out somewhere near the top in a "customer" poll, but the only common bore size that sell worse than .35 in the U.S. is 6.5mm.
Some gun writers do try to keep our finger on the pulse of the average gun buyer--the main reason I log onto this website.

All I can say is the day they come out with the 257WSM is the day I buy my first Winchester Model 70. I just hope they don't fiddle with the case like they did with the 7mmWSM.

Well, then I am in rabid agreement with Mr. Towsley and hope they DO come out with a factory 35 WSM. There are already reamers available for the wildcat, IIRC. Of course I'm a certifiable nut for the 35 caliber with a leaning toward redundant and unsalable cartridges so my vote probably isn't "representative"

A small ring M 70 would sell quite well. One that would just handle the .308 series but also take the .223. Such a rifle would look better, be lighter and still retain all of the very desirable M 70 features.
There has to be a lot more demand for rifles in 308, 223 and 7.62X39 than some 250 Fizzum.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!
