I've got a Mod70 Fwt 270 that has become my go to deer gun over the last 5 years. The Simmons Whitetail Exp scope that was on it when I bought it is getting foggy. I've never used a VX-iii 2.5x8 but I've noticed they can be had for less than a 3.5x10.
Advantages and disadvantages of each on that gun? I know, its probably not much of a difference. Is there noticable light gathering from the different objective sizes?
How about the difference between the 2.5x8 VX-iii and the 3x9 VX-ii?

I've got the fixed 6 on a 7mag and like it but would prefer a smaller objective on this gun to really keep the profile low. I may have to swap it out just to see what I think.

The difference between 42mm and 40mm, ain't enough to discourage me from putting the fixed 6 on anything I use.
FWIW, the 6x42 Sightron SIIB Big Sky has rivaled or equaled my FX-III 6x42 in all categories, and can be had for a good bit less.

The 3.5-10 will be easier to mount on the long action Mod 70.
