I have been experimenting with different brands of 22 magnum ammo and trying to sort out by best groups. So far I have tried the Remington VMax 33 grain, Winchester Supreme 34 grain and CCI Maxi Mag 40 grain in a Ruger 77 varmit/target rifle with the laminated stock. So its a toss up between the Remington and Winchester. On a fairly calm day if I do my part I can get groups in the one inch range for 3 shots with the 4th shot out another inch and the 5th a flyer out a little more at 100 meters. The little 22 seems to be affected by gusts and crosswinds. Now at 50 meters it will shoot one ragged hole. Just wondering if their might be another ammo I should try or is this typical for the 22 magnum? Thanks 300 Savage

Federal 50 grain H.P.s bug hole at less than an inch out of my 10/22 Magnum. Any breeze at all, > 5 mph, will open it up sideways.

40 gr Win JHP's and the 34 gr Win Supreme are all my Marlin 782 likes.
I can not get CCI mfg ammo (CCI, Federal, Remington) to group at all in my rifle. The best I did with CCI mfg ammo was a 3 inch group at 100 yards with Remington Premier 32 gr V-Max ammo.
I also noticed that CCI mfg ammo leaves a lot more "dirt" (burnt powder, copper fouling etc) in the barrel.

My CZ 452 FS likes 40 gr Maxi-mag HP CCI and will put 5 into 0.5 in @100 yrds. It also shoots the 30ish gr TNT HPs into 1 inch @ 100yrds and they cross the chronie at 2300 fps. I heard nothing but raves for the Remy V-maxs, but they are all over the place in my CZ. I had more to try, but it did so well with CCI that when I saw the local Dick's had mis-priced them at $5.99 a box I bought all they had and feel adequately supplied for awhile (50 boxes of 40 gr and 23 boxes of the TNT). So I gave everything else to my nephews along with my old Marlin. Poor kids have a dad that doesn't hunt, a sad tale, so I have put them on the path to redemption. ED

my marlin does best with the Remington with the green tipped 33 grn. Mine also likes the old grey box Winchester 40 grn JHP better than the supremes I have a feeling every rifle is different.
Hornady has a new 30 or 33grn vmax load out which I'm going to try.

My CZ 452 FS likes the Armscor .22 mags (white boxes with dull orange and light green/blue labels) best.

I like Federal 50 grain JHPs and PMC Predator 40 grain JSPs. I use the PMC ammo for culling whitetails and it is my load of choice for the Rossi 515 revolver that I carry more than any other side-arm. 3 PMC Predators and 3 CCI shot loads in the Rossi insures that I'm prepared for both critters and slithers that need to be dispatched.

Remington 40 gr JHP are the best shooters in my 782.
The common brands all shoot well.
I use the Winchester when I can find it.

Each rimfire rifle will prefer ammo with seemingly no rhyme or reason. My Marlin 882 likes the Win Super-X 40 gr HP, and I have tried many different brands and bullet combinations in it. My Winchester 9422 Mag likes the 34 gr Win Supreme best so far.

My Savage 72 I rechambered to .22WMR like 40 grain Armscore 40 grain JSP's and the Remington V-MAX equally, it will shoot most any brand far better than I can shoot.

My Anschutz shoots 40 grain Winchester or CCI Maxi-Mag best. I've never had much luck with the light weight bullets in it, except for the plastic tip Remingtons.

Winchester 9422 Magnum shoots best with CCI 22 Maxi Mag TNT JHP. These are 30 grain varmint rounds. The little lever action has shot 1" groups @ 100 yards............not too bad IMHO.

Remington Premier's and Winchester Supreme's. Nothing else comes close in my Ruger 77.

CCI Maxi Mag 40 grain in a Ruger 77 varmit/target rifle with the laminated stock. Dat's what works in mine. One hole at 50.
