Have a new model ss Ruger Bearcat. The cylinder pin (base pin) has a small spring loaded plunger in the end that rests against the transfer plate. It can fall out during cylinder removal/ replacement, but it looks like it should be retained by a capscrew (screwdriver notched?). Is it suppposed to be able to fall out? Have a letter on the way to Ruger, but thought I'd ask 24Hr. Thanks

No, it's not supposed to be able to fall out. There's a spring and pin that fit inside a cap on the end of the base pin that would be tightened with a spanner wrench or a thin screwdriver. If your Bearcat is new it might have been left off/out/loose at the factory.
Never heard of this before.

I would think they will just send you a new base pin and their apologies. Please let us know.

Unless these have been changed on this model, the spring and plunger are staked into the base pin. The marks on the back of the pin being punch marks rather than screwdriver slots...?? Check with magnification. I have not seen any that were held in by a threaded feature of any kind, but I gotta tell ya, I'm a LONG way from having seen everything!! Please post if yours actually is a threaded bushing.
Thanks

That makes sense. I've never seen nor taken one apart. The slots looked machined to me and reading Sawbones post sent my brain right to the "threaded parts" drawer.

You are exactly right. It suddenly dawned on me that it must be peened in place and that it was just not peened well -enough. Great memory and detective work. This should be an easy fix with some oak to grip the base pin and a vise... Now where did that little sucker fly off to?????
