350 Chevy V8 Ford 300 I6 Slant 6 Dodge
As for big diesel pushers 425 Cat 60 Series Detroit Diesel
Do like the 550 Cat but the fuel mileage is the [bleep] so ruling it out.
Whats your thoughts?

For the rice burners out there, a 22R in a Toyota is about as bullet proof as there is.

Whats your thoughts? For gas: The MOPAR 318 was the king for a long time. Today, it is the TBI chev 350 produced from 1988-94. Casey

I had over 350K on the 302 in my old 1967 F-100 when I rebuilt it. Probably could have waited another 100K or so, but I wanted more powere for off roading.

I'll have to go with the Ford 300 inline 6 too. I'd rather have a V8 but I sure have seen a lot of those 300rds that started ticking at 50,000 miles or sooner, and kept doing it for 200,000 or 300,000 more miles.

To the list of great engines, I would add the Chevy/GMC straight six, 235-cubic-inch Stove Bolt. I think Toyota later copied this same engine for the original Land Cruiser.

I agree on the 550 Cat, it'll move, but as you stated it"ll suck the diesel. You can see one rolling up the hammer lane and you'll hear on the CB "Here Kitty Kitty". I've seen the 425's that have been "tweaked" run darn good also. The 60 series Detroits probably move as much or more freight in the US, then any other diesel engine other then maybe the Cummings. I've seen some 60's that have been "tweaked" and will run like a scalded dog.
