THE bullet you'll not have to worry about up close is tsx for sure.. of course partition wont' be far behind either, I've shot some deer with X bullets from rounds running fast with light X, at about 30ish yards.... Some wounds display LOTS of hair missing at exit and entry holes but nothing horrible in damage to the meat... more than I cared for which is why I quit shooting some 150s in my 300 wtby that my BIL gave me....

I've only got limited experience with the AB, but both instances were good. One was a mule deer this year at about 100 yds, lung hit, with expansion similar to a partition. Another was a cow elk at a measured 242 yds, and the wound again was similar to what a partition would do.

In both cases, it was the 270 140 AB, first from a 270 on deer, and from my son's 270 WSM on elk.

This is limited experience, admittedly, but positive limited experience.

Does a bullet part out and part in on the opposite shoulder, count as a passthru? Or would some think that is bullet failure? Just kidding-for you serious types-but about as relevant a discussion.

Given a choice between the 140 BT and the 140 AB, I'd use the AB, but I'd hold my nose while doing it...

Talk about a "Tempest in a Teacup". crazy
If shoulder shots give some of you so much trouble, why not aim for the lungs like Jack O' Connor used to advise.
I shot 2 deer this year with a 270 and 130 gr. Ballistic Tips.
Both deer died fast and were easy to find even with no snow!
I like these bullets. They are accurate and deadly, end of story.
I shot a nice 11 pt with the 35 Whelen and a 250 Speer and he
was affected by gravity immediately. grin
The 35 Whelen will work with any bullet I have tried on deer, caribou, and black bear. Hopefully I can shoot an elk or two before I go to the big spike camp in the sky.

From a sample of two (seen) I shall conclude that the 225 Accubond is sheer instant death on elk from a .338 WM.

They be jammin'. Good bullets.

Jeff,
You've got to be bored to post a .338 225 grain AB in a 7mm AB/BT thread!!!!!

I shot a deer this year while using 160gr accubonds around 2,900 out of 7mm Rem. The shot was slightly over 100 yards and went right through behind both shoulders. The deer took 1 step and collasped. The entrance clipped part of a rib and on the inside of the entrance cage the hole was the size of a dime. The heart was partly shreaded along with the lungs mangled. The exit on the back side was slightly bigger than a quarter. I was pretty impressed with the bullet performace. The only concern I have is if the shot is under 60 yards how the bullet will hold together/perform.

My 264 winnie launching 130gr AB's killed four whitetails this past season with ranges from 40yds to 380+yds. All had the same size entrance and the same 3/4" exit. One bullet went through both shoulders and hit big bones with very little bloodshot meat.

These Accubonds are the cat's pajamas.

I have taken over two dozen deer sized gig game animals with the 140gr ballistic tip out of my 7mmstw rifles.I have never experienced a single bullet failure, and most bullets exited.Of course bullets that struck shoulder did do much more damage than lung shots.

I use the 150BT's in my 7mm RM for everything from pigs to red deer (400lb). I have found them to be a much under-rated bullet. On deer sized game they perform flawlessly and are a very accurate bullet too.

Try them, I am sure you won't be disappointed.

I have shot quite a few deer at woods ranges with a 7mm RM and all the bullets worked well except for two. Why I used a 120 Hornady I don't know but it must have been youth. The bullet blew up on the bucks near side rib but the fragments did him in. Not a good application. Other than a doe that ran too far when hit good with a 160 Sierra other bullets like the 130 Speer HC, 140 Sierra Pro Hunter, 140 Partition and 150 Corelok are good for deer.

I suppose the 140 Partition would be 'best' but the others worked fine. These days I am loading the 168 VLD in the 7mm WSM. No more 7mm RM's here. So far I have not shot one up close with that bullet.

Given the two choices Id grab the AccuBond bullets every time.

Given my druthers Id grab a Nosler Partition, Swift A-Frame, Speer Trophy Bonded/Tipped Trophy Bonded or Barnes TSX/TTSX/MRX. Not all have the high BC and/or accuracy potential of the AccuBond bullets but all are better in both categories than Ive needed in 25 years of big game hunting and some do very well in both categories.

Naysayers to the contrary, there are simply far too many credible stories, here and elsewhere, of cup-and-core bullets of various types blowing up at high impact velocities.

This is just a funny aside...

I was up yesterday maintaining my steel plates course; had a couple turned sideways etc. Anyway I have one nailed to a stump at 450 yards, and I have hif the stump a fair amount. It's a small stump, logging slash, about 10" through and mostly I was hitting it where it was more like 4 or 5 inches through...

Anyway behind it, on the ground, I found two bullets that had obviously hit the wood. One a 165-gn Accubond from my 30-06, the other a 200-gn Partition from my 325 WSM... at 450 yards, the impact speed would be around 1900 fps I believe.

The Partition had lost it's front half, as they do. The Accubond had mushroomed perfectly and I bet it weighed about 125 grains, though I haven't tossed it on the scale yet...

Kind of neat to see.. I really like the Accubond a lot.
