I think that recoil can wear me out. I can shoot about 15-20 hot 300WSM loads with 180's and then my shooting drops off. Maybe it is lack of concentration, or maybe the barrel is just gotten to the point that it is not cooling off completely, don't know.

Hey
My .02 says That when I shoot paper I feel recoil. When I down the deer or rabbit or an ocasional thunder chicken. all I do is hear the shot sound. I have never said wow that was a bad recoil.

I 100% agree with this, especially on new shooters. My buddy asked to borrow my iron sighted .30-30 because his son simply was not shooting his .243 with a scope very well. The same kid shot a 20 gauge no problem, but thought the .243 kicked a lot and was worried the scope was going to hit him. He eventually got over it after his dad worked with him and used the .243 and did fine. I also think this is why guys have no problem shooting magnum turkey & duck loads, but will jerk the heck out of a trigger (because it kicks too much) on something like a scoped .30-06 or even .270.

ROST 495 Hit it on the nose. A light weight person moves back with the rifle. A big person has more to move thus absorbing more punishment before moving back with the rifle. I noticed this 45 years ago and have seen it many times since. Lots of 250 lb tush hogs can tolerate a 243 but a 264 0r 300 Win Mag is too uncomfortable. Just my observations over the years. I know there are lots of men that can handle any big cartridges. I have bought more than a few Magnums from big guys that wanted something with less recoil. At age 25 and 155 lbs in fairly good condition I could zero all five of our 264 Win Mags back to back with no problem. At 175 lbs at age 60 it was a little uncomfortable. Purple shoulder in a couple of days.
When shooting my 300 Weatherby with 150 partitions at 3500 fps I got a pretty hard slap on the cheek and shoulder, but a 180 at 3200 fps didn't slap as hard. Why????????????
