Somebody paid $763 for a mismatched, badly worn, 1899 saddle-ring carbine in 25-35 on GB! I know how uncommon saddle-ring carbines are, particularly so in 25-25, but $763 for a rifle without any condition and a mismatched replacement stock seem crazy to me.

I saw the carbine too - I thought it was basically junk. It did have some value, but I felt the price achieved exceeded that by around $300. But remember, people will stand in line to buy junk.

Very careful not to show the 'work' done on the front of the lever boss.

I'm envisioning the 100 yard 'nice' group...as random scattered holes,on a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood.

Reminds me of when I bought that saddle ring carbine with the jeweled receiver. If I had held on to it...I ponder the value now.It was kinda clean at least.

That's worse than the 95% "restored" 99 with a blued lever that went for ~600 or so with a cracked stock.

shouldn't the rear sight be a micrometer and the front be a rocky mountain blade and a carbine butt plate??????? Can you even get carbine or rifle butt plates these days????

and Jed, you can see the file work in one of the pictures on the left side of the lever boss...

This here is killing me.

It's not the fact that a total idiot believes this thing is real, it's the fact that there are TWO total idiots that think it's real.

I think I've got a medallion here somewhere, time to glue it onto something good and put her up on Fleabay. Been thinking about on top of a hammer. "The Savage Arms Hammer", lets see who bites.

I saw that. I bet Savage made them to keep the lid closed on your front porch washing machine.

The seller knows exactly how rare of item he has! The bidders identities are hidden so you can't warn them! You don't mind someone not knowing but this is a total fraud! And ten suckers, I mean bids on it so far! Thank god I have access to mad dogs eBay account he is going to be pleased when he get the bill for this one grin

Haha, my wife doesn't even know the pw on my account.

Funny thing though, I used to have my buddies pw, I just typed in his dogs name under his account and up came his watch list.

I was adding plastic sex toys and funky lingerie to his account all the time, his wife was going ballistic on him but he finally figured out it was me and changed his password.

I am no judge of value...don't have the experience, and likely overpay for 99s compared to what some of you think they are worth...but this would be an expensive wall hanging...

Depending on how truthful and accurate the seller is about the guns shooting ability, the only thing I see doable with this gun would be an extensive and complete restoration...new wood, re-blue, correct sights, correct butt plate...I would start by lettering it....a few hundred $$ later and a ton of work he might be in it for what it is worth to you all...if it shoots okay....

and you never know, maybe its the missing link in someones collection and they have been looking for that exact rifle for years...

I don't pass judgement on what others want to spend, I personally might not agree but guarantee that I have paid way more than most of you would for what you would consider a junk gun...but I like putting a little work into something...feels good to make an old rat look new again and I am never looking at these as a money making investment, I just try to not be upside down compared to market value...

sorry for the rant...

"...some guy in kansas gave me 200.00 for it..." and it was not me. grin

Every gun has a buyer. There were 6 people that thought the carbine was worth $600+ and 4 that would have paid over $700. The demand is a lot higher than the supply and you have just seen what effect that can have.

The seller did a good job of stating just what it was that he was selling and started at a rock bottom price. I wonder what he thought it would bring?

Went to a small gun show this past weekend and saw two old grey-rat beaters in .300 savage for $750.00 each. Passed by the same table 30 minutes later, and they were gone. Supply and Demand! Last month I was offered $1800 for my 99-375 (paid $250 for it 7 years ago) by a dealer.
If I were a dealer, I'd have sold it; but, hell, I'm a collector (my wife defines that as pack rat).

To each his own.Try buying 99 sights and parts.Cheaper to buy the hole gun. Some things each of us want for is stupid to another.I for one would not have a stable full of rebarreled and
rebored 336s.They can drive the prices up all they want as far as Im concerned.
