A little background. I have hunted with MLs for over a decade. My current rifle is a .50 cal Knight Disc Elite. Two years ago my hunting partner made the leap to smokeless with the Savage 10 MLII. I have seen the light but would like to take it one step further.

So heres the deal I want to shoot smokeless, and I have no state bore restrictions. How low can I go? Has anyone seen or heard of any custom shops out there producing something in a .375 cal.? I was leaning toward the 375 bc of the vast selection of bullets out there and my knowledge of the cal from hand loading center fires.

I recently sold a couple hand guns that were safe queens, so I have a little bit of $ to play with and want to do this right. Any advice for a long range (Id like to get to 250 yards) smokeless ML is appreciated.

I have heard of one report of a 40 cal sabotless Barnes bullet reaching 2700 and change fps. If memory serves he rebarreled a Savage 10MLII.

Am I correct in thinking that if I have to stick with a .50 cal smokeless, that the NULA is top of the heap?

Any direction is appreciated.

Whatever you do just keep in mind the legalites....I mean that said gun will have to be loaded from the muzzle (if during muzzleloading season) and I would believe that trying to ram a .375 bullet down the tube might not be the most fun in the world.....try it once.
I also dont believe there is a cal restriction on muzzleloaders.
