There are quite a few on www.ar15.com/ that speak very well of them. Do a search on the optics board.

What are you wishing to do and what is your budget?

A used Leupie 3.5-10x 40mm can be had for $300-ish and has over 50MOA. It is both a known quantity and a solid performer,as well as having more than enough internals to get to 1000yds with most any chambering, assuming a tapered base are inclination via eccentric ring inserts.

The Weaver T-series repeat superbly and can be had for a steal. Just missed a T-10 for $150!

Point bein',if you are buying goods from a defunct Company(Tasco is no longer)...It's YOUR fault.........................

Big Stick,

I am familiar with Leupold, I had a 4.5x14 Mildot tactical on my long departed Rem .308 VLS. Nice scope and back in those days I was lucky enough to get it for $500. That was before wife, and kids came along. I mostly want a scope I can use for target/varmint. According to info I have read on the TASCO SS10x42, SWFA is the only outfit they are made for and I was wondering if anyone had actual experience with
it.

Big Stick,

Thanks for the reply

I take the hint fine. My question is ...have YOU any experience with this scope, as in , have you used it? or are you just dismissing it because it is made by TASCO? The only scopes I've ever had are Leupold and I think they're outstanding! I just came across this TASCO while surfing the net and, not wanting to believe just the sales pitch, decided to ask around and see if anyone had used this item and perhaps gain some insight from users.

Speculation ain't my gig.

Have played with it and was impressed enough to steer you clear. You can always have the satisfaction of buying a couple and relating they is the best thing since sliced bread and bask in the Tasco Glow.

My pockets aren't deep enough to buy [bleep],especially [bleep] that is no longer made and getting the inevitable repair is dicey on the best of days.

Don't let common sense and firsthand findings sway your thinking. Just bet on the legendary Tasco craftsmanship, attention to detail and superlative componetry,to pull you through the pending mire.

Get a couple of them.......................(grin)

Well, finally a reason as to why you don't like them...I can deal with the opinion of someone who has had one. So what was the problem with these scopes? Wouldn't hold zero, not repeatable, low light transmission?

Thanks for your input

Couldn't like the resolution, adjustments and the name upon it. Must confess to having a coupla more Trashco's still kicking around, though it pains me to say it. They too sport mush turrets, that don't go where they should.

That scope lineage (SS's) has been discussed much upon every Forum. Their are some variants, that faired better than others and that has to due with their place of Manufacture.

I just think you are nuts to roll dice of that price, for a line that is no longer in business and famous for bottom rung performance to boot.

I'm thinking of grabbing a coupla Bushnell 3200 10x40's to evaluate(torture test),just to soothe my curiousity. I haven't heard of one puking yet and most seem receptive to it,given it's modest asking price($150-ish). It does not sport AO,but adjustments seem to be repeatable and precise according to reports I've been privvy to. It also boasts a fair amount of ele(80-ish MOA according to most who have them) and just might make a fair [bleep] kicker just for laughs.

Whichever way you spend your loot, spill your guts upon your findings.................

I remember reading a thread here of another person who purchased the Tasco Sniper model from SWFA. He too was steered away from the model on the front end. Afterwards he asked for an exchange towards a leupold....

Go ahead and buy one like he did

Many years ago I worked in a gunshop. We were a volume leupold dealer back when that was saying something. The factory rep told us to never argue with a customer returning a leupold product for any reason, just reach under the counter an give them a new one. Leupold backed their product really well. Didn't see any come back while i worked there.

However we also sold tasco scopes. They came back all the time, reticles shot, adjustment knobs not working properly, etc. The tasco product was not backed nearly as well as the leupold. The customer always wanted to blame the salesperson or the store for the quality of the product even when you tried to tell them on the front end. Seems like things have not changed.....

I owned 1 tasco scope long time ago. It was enough.....

Here's a nice used 10x leupold on ebay at an attractive price you might want to check out.

Well gentleman,

Did a little reading on the "not defunct" TASCO WEB site and apparently, they are now owned by Bushnell. As for th SS scopes, if you want to go check it out, I read a review on Sniper Country and they had a first gen and it had the mushy knobs, but say the latest version is a much different animal. SWFA supposedly has exclusive rights to the ones being produced by Tasco/Bushnell. I checked out the bushnell site also and some of their scopes do look similar in appearance. Other reviews I read were all over the place...some said outstanding bargain and others say junk. My personal take on all this is that the old Tasco's might not have been up to snuff, but possibly with the change in ownership, quality might have improved. I read Tasco's warrenty section and they basically say that stuff made before they took over is repaired by some else, ABO I think.

Wow,just checked out that early 70's 10x on ebay. Went for $305-. About $75 less than a new 12xx40 Leupold. Been in on a couple bids on ebay and Leupolds just go too close to new prices for me to buy em there sight unseen. Guess thats the good part about owning them and the hard part of trying to pick them up cheap.
