I'm in the midst of a Mauser project that I'd like to be able to put a quick release scope system on. Problem is the scope I want to use, a Vari-XIII 2.5-8x36, is a touch too short in the tube to use with straight up rings. So I'm looking through my Brownell's catalog and find these quick release Leupold Extension rings. I'm thinking "Extension" means one ring, or both, extends a little closer together so I'll be able to use a shorter tubed scope. Am I thinking right?

It's an offset ring.

In other words a ring that doesn't clamp directly above the hole(s) in the base where the base attaches to the ring itself.

If the bell or the turrets of a scope are directly over top of the base you need an offset ring to reach the area where the ring is secured to the scope and get it back to the base.

My 2 cents, I don't like them, they are IMHO a weak connection and amore stable option should be looked into, especially if on a kicker or DGR.

They do look weak, no argument there, but I have them on a 30-06 and it's an extremely accurate rifle that has held POI for several years through a couple thousand rounds....

I just try not to look at 'em!
