I'm just getting into reloading and want to get a load going for my RRA 16" midlength. It's a 1-9 twist.

I've got an Eotech on it and My uses will be range time/targets (mostly), maybe some coyote, and maybe home defense (although highly unlikely as I clean it and put it away after use in the safe and my Glock 20 sits beside my bed for defense).

Anyway...
I am going to try to use Varget for the powder and I was thinking about the Hornady 52 gr. A-max or Hornady 68 gr. bthp.

Can anyone recommend a bullet for me? I only want to get one type of bullet for it (as I will probably get one box in bulk to start with)...kind of a do-it-all type situation I guess is what I'm looking for.

Any input on these two, or should I be looking at something else?
Thanks!

The heavier the bullet the more expensive they will be if that is of any concern. I personally prefer the Sierra 69 BTHP, but my gopher gun will shoot 55 gr stuff under and inch too. When the 55 gr stuff is gone, I won't buy anymmore unless I have too. grin

Another consideration is how big an exit hole you like in the coyote? whistle

I would think the Hornady 60 grain V-Max would be good for coyotes, and should shoot well. The 69 grain MK should also be a good shooter with what you have.

The 60 Vmax is a coyote whacker for sure. Very good performance this past weekend.

For your uses, 60 V max by all means!

Just don't try it in the house, its likely to penetrate as much or more as your handgun, a good reason I keep #8 shot in a 12ga in the house, followed by a couple of buckshot later down the mag if the fight isn't over....

I have not shot 60 vmax against a hard target, but have shot 69 bthp at a freezer at 300 M.... it'll penetrate SxS fridge/freezer walls and keep going....

How is the lab doing? Haven't stopped by the gundog forum lately, I"m all into learning about my airboat...

Thanks for the responses...I will check into the 60 V max.

rost495...I probably would not use it for home anyway. I've got the Glock 20 and a cut down double barrel close by, so I would never use it for that.

I will check out the gundog forum...my lab has passed, though. She was 16 and passed away last year from cancer.

I have the same barrel length and twist as you do, and have been using both the 55gr Remington HP and the 55gr Hornady SP. Both shoot accurately and you can buy them a pretty good prices by the 1,000. I killed 6 medium to smaller sized pigs so far with it and was pleased with the performance.

But, I also haven't tried any other bullets yet, so I can't offer a comparison.
