I saw this story on the Outdoor Channel the other night but only caught the tail end of it. I was wondering why in the hell does someone wear blue jeans in two feet of snow while hiking a long ways from the truck......then the lucky (insert here) manages to............................. A friend just E mailed me the whole story and things are clearer now. Yea, after my hard luck moose hunt! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

How frustrated must that guide have been? Can you imagine?

On the contrary, this guy did several things right. First, he applied for the tag. Then, he listened to his friends. Then, he did not pull the trigger too early. Then, he listened to the guide. Finally, he made the shot.

Hey guys, this bull was killed in my back yard. I live next to Spanish Fork canyon and see these bulls every year. I am good friends with Doyle and I went to school with him as well. I hooked up with Doyle a couple of weeks ago at a local show. I was fondling the mounted bull and chewing the rag with him about the hunt. The attached article doesn't even come close to stating how stupid the hunter was. He was more like 80 lbs. over weight and the sorriest excuse for a human you would ever want to meet. It has been over a year and the hunter has still not held up his end of the "money". Doyle has not even received a thanks from the lame ass hunter. Doyle does have the mounted bull in his possession, so he does have some leverage. Doyle is a first class guide and very respected by people that know him. He has guided 4 of the last 5 state record deer and elk. He knows his stuff. The story still makes me ill. The good thing is, the bull was young and there are two more just like him in the area that are over 400 B. and C. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I took a friend of mine hunting in this unit last year. He drew a tag and needed some direction. We got this big boy. He scores 347 net. [Linked Image] Flinch

I'm happy to hear he has that leverage as well. That just isn't right.

How did he come to have it in his posession?

If I would have killed it I wouldn't let anyone have it. 'courseI wouldn't have stiffed a guide either.....

Didericksen fired four more shots, all the while praying he didn't happen to hit the bull's antlers. The bull finally dropped after Didericksen's 10th shot.

I can't decide whether this is more funny or sad. I'm sure the guy is a mutt.

After reading the article I almost cried, This guy has to be one of if not the biggest dumb A_S's I have ever heard of. But those are the ones that usually draw the tags. The guide should have just taken his rifle from him and shot the Elk himself I don't think the hunter would have cared because he damn sure can't shoot. Then the guy stiffing the guide that not only found the Elk but guided him to it is the worst thing I have ever heard of, the hunter should be taken out and beat like a step kid. All I know is that the guide sure must one hellova good fellow to have gone through this hunt with an idiot. In my humble opinion the guide deserves the mounted head not the hunter. I have never heard of some one taking 10 shots to down a Bull Elk, my god that is pitiful and makes good hunters shutter thinking about what the Anti's will do with this story.
Well, enough said.

interesting read, thanks for sharing it. in the hunters defense, he admitted his blunders all along. sometimes, things go like clock work, one deer/elk/whatever at a time, one shot, etc...then, all of a sudden, the wheels fall off and everything comes unglued. sounds like this fellow had a unique combo of bad and good luck all at once. for sure, the guide earned the elk, not the hunter but that is usually the way it goes on guided hunts. this story is probably not that unique, most elk guides will tell you that the majority of their clients come to camp out of shape, unorganized and can't shoot.
