I have an assortment of the old Remington M/8 (.30 Rem, .32 Rem., and .35 Rem caliber) and a M/81 (.300 Savage). I am looking for a source of stripper clips for these old rifles. The only place I've seen them was one guy selling original strippers for $35.00 apiece! I bought one of these old M/8's for about that price, the whole gun! Anyone got an idea? Thanks.
Regards, Jack

I am afraid to tell you that the prices of these (the guns and the stripper clips!) have gone up just a hair!
$35 is about right. There is no readily available source for these, and if there is let me know. these are scrounging types items. Look at gunshows in the piles o stripper bins. Wade through all the rusty 8mm Mauser clips and you might find one.
The other place is eBay, where they typically sell for $30-40 each. The brass sell better than the steel.
As for that old Model 8, I will double your money - send it over! I love mine. .30 remington model 8.

I think I'll hang on to it, despite your "generous" offer :-). Thanks for the suggestions. A question remains: are they similar to 8mm Mauser clips in appearance (I've never seen one.)?

No, it is just that there are a million 8mm stripper clips at every gun show I have been to. Kinda like rusty Garand clips, fair number of those too. I have a brass one for .25/.30/.32 rem, if you are interested in in it, shoot me a PM.
Seems like a fair number of the 300sav./35rem clips on ebay over the last few months, but not as many of the other calibre.
I don't really see their usefulness in the field though. They certainly are a collectable item, and a good one for the Model 8/81 enthisuast. I just don't see the need for a fast reload in the field after shooting 5 rounds. it is just not that type of gun for me. If I need that kind of firepower, I bring my FAL.

Not to hijack the thread, but have any of you 8/81 fans tried making a switch barrel rifle out of one??? I have a Model 8 in 30 Rem that I inherited from my grandfather and I've often thought it would be really nice to have additional barrels in other calibers for it. I haven't looked closely enough to know how headspace is set, so I don't know if a person could buy and extra front end and fit it to an existing rifle???

I had thought about it. In the three years i have been loking, there have only been enough parts on ebay to do it once in .35 remington, and probably three or four times in .30 rem. Hve not seen other calibre barrels. Not to say they are not out there, just not a very common item. For all the bitchin' about ebay, if you can't find it there, it is going to be hard to find.
When you get down to brass tacks, the only switch that would make sense anyway would be going from .25, .30. or .32 rem to a .35 rem. The .35 offers a little more punch, and the .25 a little flatter, but the ballistics .30 and .32 are identical.
I am not sure if you could open up a 25/30/32 bolt, or replace it with a .35 bolt becasue of the larger case head. But that is a one way switch anyway.
