Well as I have been finishing up my list of things to buy for this coming year my purchases will have to wait a bit. My 7 year old Rottie has been sick for about 5 days and last night the old lady tells me she thinks he's dieing. Having been at work for the last 48 hours I am trying to figure out how the hell a dog goes to chit in 5 days. So off to the Animal Hospital we go this morning at 8am sharp and well $350 later I am viewing an x-ray image of two big azz rocks that are stuck in his Intestine. The stupid SOB has to have surgey to remove em cuz they are too big to pass and the special price of the day ladies and gentleman is............................................$2,000.As I sit there looking at his dehydrated and pathetically sick azz in the examining room it was all I could do not to kick him right in his azz. Got to love owning pets sometimes. Now back to the stuff I want to buy when I am done paying for boulder removal!!!grin

Yes, but you'll pay for it. We spent over $1000 for a cat's last night after she had a heart atttack (vet, oxygen, intensive care, etc.) and we still cried the next day when we put her down.
Hope all goes well.

C'mon, with a face like this how could I say no? He's a great dog and absolutely the protector of our home. Working in the Fire Dept and spending so many nights away from home Taz brings me peace that your gonna have to be a resilient SOB if you think your coming in my house to steal or do harm to my wife and son, cuz you better have a firearm and be willing to use it, cuz you'll have to. Hey chit happens, but we love him. He saved my wifes azz some years a go when some drunk azz idiot tryed to force his way into the house after my wife answered the door, wen she called me at the station hysterical and then explained that when the guy tried to push the door open against her will and Taz tried to get him (he does that sometimes..grin), the guy jumped back, wife shut and locked door, got a gun and called the cops. All I thought was, good boy! But I cant lie and say there isn't a bunch of other chit I'd like to spend $2K on.

A couple of years ago, my wife and I are in New York City with tickets to see the Letterman show. We get a call from the kennel, your dog has a nose bleed but it won't stop so we're taking her to the vet. A couple of hours later, we get a call from the vet. Your dog has some serious issues, we're taking her to the animal hospital. A couple of hours later, we get a call from the animal hospital. We moving your dog into the dog ICU. Heck, I didn't even know there was such a thing. The next morning we get a call. We're not sure what's wrong with your dog, we're calling in a dog internist.
The dog has been the family pet for over decade. The kids love the dog. We're in Manhatten and no one can tell what is wrong with the dog so I can't exactly give the "put her down" order. Instead, I keep giving the vets and doctors and hospital my credit card number. We finally get back from New York and head to see the dog. She has inoperable tumors in her spleen and probably won't last much longer than a few weeks. So, we talk as a family and agree that putting the dog down is the best thing. We get through the whole drama and a couple of weeks later the credit card statement comes in. I'm not going to tell you exactly what it cost, but it was more than our entire trip to the Big Apple.
So it goes.

I'm sorry to hear about your latest vet bills, I know it's alot of money, but I would just be happy it's something money can fix. My dog's turning 7 years old this month, I had her since she was 3 months old, I paid $200 for her, and now I would pay a million to keep her alive (if I had a million). I hope it's your last vet bill for the year though, no one likes paying vet bills. It seems like they suck you for every penny your worth. Almost every time Icome home from the vet I decide I shouldnt have spent money on one thing or another. While your at the vet you want to do everything right for your dog, and the vet's always seem to get you to buy things/do things you dont need. It's after I get home and have a minute to think about it, I realize I probably could have gone without certain things. But at the time, you'll do anything for your dog, and vet's know this, and I think sometimes they really take advantage of it. I have such a hard time finding a good vet that really cares about my dog and is someone I can trust. I hope you've had better luck in these regards. Back on topic, I knew a German shepard who ate golf balls, buy the time her owners found out something was wrong and took her to the vet, she had something like 10 golf balls in her stomach trying to digest them. Crazy what dog's eat, it's hard to keep an eye on them all the time if you live in the country and have a little property for them to roam and around. You never know when they'll go out and start eating rocks....

I spent $2,600 on my 10 month old pup because she tangled with the step ladder and dislocated her hip. Vet had to do a femoral head ostectomy. A total hip replacement would have costed $5,000.

I have shot three of my dogs and my last was Woden, my 160 lb. purebred Rottweiler and brother of Axel, my current 8.5 yr. old male and my wife's protector. This is the WORST experience one can have, I had cops involved when I had to do this just over a year ago; I will NEVER trust or respect a cop again after their behaviour and attitude.
I have paid LOTS of vet's bills, but, this is better than the alternative and we "doctor"our own pets most of the time. Pets, ESPECIALLY my Rottweilers are the emotional mainstay of my life and are treated like little gods here....and they repay us ten-thousand fold.
Rotts LOVE to chew rocks and the little terrors like 10 week old Lily who is becoming my new companion can drive you bonkers....but, we also have had intruders and they LEAVE when the first roar erupts from a Rott, so, the hassle is worth it!
I would give ALL my guns and gear, close to 150K in guns and bping gear-optics without a thought to keep Axel until I die, Im love him a though he were my child.

I know how everyone feels. Went to the Vet today with my Dobe (see left),and after the 2nd visit, and $713 in tests, still no closer to a diagnosis. He is a huge part of our family, so it only hurts a little while.

Best wishes to you , your dog and family. Here's to a quick recovery. I have a pair of Enteroliths (Gastric Stones) from a Quarter Horse that cost me just over $5000.
Kinda makes pet medical insurance not seem so ridiculous.

All I want to add is best wishes, my man. The last time my Mojo got out of the yard, I just friggin' cried. Driving around all night looking everywhere, until a woman with a British accent called me, and with her best Austin Powers inflection, says to me, "I think you've lost your Mojo". Thank God for that name tag with the phone number on the collar. It seems her pup was in heat, and 'ole Mojo was just being a bother (like father, like son)! Don

Your pup will pull through an be back to norm before you know it.
Had our last lab do that with a leather work glove. I forget what all they did to get him operating properly again.
We are lucky to have the vet that we do. The guy that owns it is the main vet and does it as a hobby. Seems he has a construction company or sumthin out of sate that makes his money so He only charges enough to make a a lil profit. Up straight and says it like he sees it.

I dropped 3500 on my malamute a few years back. I'm glad I did it.
I pity the fool that even looks funny at my wife when he is around.

Can't put a price on a best friend.
My avatar is our English Bulldog we had to put to sleep last weekend. He made everyone that ever met him smile. And kept us laughing every evening.

Well fellas, Taz pulled through the surgery and the vet has two large rocks in a bag waiting for me. It turns out the rocks were in his stomach right where the intestine comes in. He's doing good and will be home tomorrow. Pics of rocks to come!....grin Thanks for the kind words guys and thankfully it wasn't something serious and I dont have to say the eternal good bye to my bud.
