Ok, I've got a few rattlesnake recipies that look good. One thing they never say is what to do w/ the bones. Do you try to remove them, or do they turn to mush, kinda like some fish bones do? Pick your teeth w/ them? Any recipies that you like? Any suggestions for care of the meat?

The last time I ate Rattlesnake, we just battered the pieces and deep fried them. I don't remember the bones (this was a big diamondback 6' 4") posing a problem, we didn't remove them and they didn't turn to mush if my memory serves me.
We were, however, drinking a little

We were, however, drinking a little I was going to ask if you're sure it was snake, but maybe I'll keep quiet. But thanks. That's the way it seems in most of the recipies that I've seen... Just cut the snake up and follow the recipie. Oh well, maybe a Texan will know...

rnr I've eaten it but don't care for it very much. It isn't just in the mind either. The meat has a stringy texture that I don't care for. Sort of like stringy frog legs if you can imagine that. All I have eaten has just been steaked and deep fried and you ate around the bones. I suppose you could fix it a number of diffent ways but since I don't relish it I've never bothered.

I've never tried 'em, we've only got garder snakes aournd here. Bigger snakes give me the willies so I'm not terribly inclinded to have much to do with them. Eatin' something that is made up of 100% rodent or frog or whatever else these slithery things eat doesn't turn my crank either. I was just curious what recipes would be in the thread.
Give me a nice grain fed deer/goose/duck/grouse anytime! I have cooked eels... they were tastey enough, but a bit greasy. With them you just eat around the bones, and then put the bones around the edge of the plate. The first person to make a complete circle around the outside of the plate wins. At least that's what I wuz told, but there was quite a bit of Akavit flowin' at the time..

No, it was definitely a snake, and I got proof! The skin is now mounted on a plank in a local state legislator's business. He was with me when I killed it (over thirty years ago).
