What would this be worth and what could you build with it if it has a 7mm Rem Mag bolt face without breaking the bank? What do you look for to see if its worth fooling with? Who could rebarrel it for me?

I guess I'd be for going with another 7 Rem, or if it were me I'd do a 7 Mashburn Super but I am weird that way.

300 win, 338 win and or the 416 Taylor may well be one cool way to go.

Send it to PN and call it a day.

Obviously, it depends on what you intend to use the rifle for. But I would screw on a 264WM barrel, and have a ball!

257 Roy or 264 Win mag.

Or a 7 mm Roy would be cool too.

My M77's mag box is too short for the 7mm Wby. So, I stayed with a 7mm Rem Mag. The smaller magnums are appealing for that rifle though.

Why not go back with the 7mm Rem Mag?

Are you sure?? .257Roy and 7Roy use the same lenght case. I'm pretty sure it will work ... but I've been wrong before.

*** Edited to add ***

According to Hodgdon's site both have similar COL's for 150gr NP's 3.250 for the WBY and 3.270 for the RemMag. So the Rem version is a tad longer.

If you want to rebarrel on the cheap, get a new rem takeoff barrrel. The CM usually go for around $50 and SS around $65

The threads per inch are the same. The Ruger thread's OD is slightly smaller. It is an easy thing for a gunsmith to install.

As for chambering..it is up to what barrel you find. I have done the Rem 7 mag as it is a common takeoff. There are often 300 win mags. A cool one would be the 30-388. It fits better in the Ruger's short mag box.

The mag box is ok for any mag with a OAL of less than 3.400. Rugers mag box is about as short as the come only shorter one I have used is the Colt Light rifle. Max on it is 3.350.

The Mashburn is set up on a full length H&H case, right?? No go on the Ruger.

Dave ... not 100% on this and Mark may chime in ... but I'm thinkin' the Mashburn is actually on a shortened H&H case.

The Mashburn Magnum Long is based on the full length H&H case.

The easiest and least expensive thng to do would be send it back to Ruger for a new 7mm RM barrel. Their current barrels are pretty good.

I bought a 1976 Ruger 77R .250 Savage that had 3" of rust in the bore at the muzzle. I bought it with the intention of shortening the barrel. The rest of the bore was pretty bad, rough, lot of tool marks, etc., so I sent it to Ruger for a new barrel.

While it was at Ruger, they called and said "the trigger was out of spec and they had replaced parts" . Made me a little nervous.

Rifle was returned in about 6 weeks, the new barrel is tight and smooth, shoots well and new trigger breaks at 3.5 pounds, crisp.

Total cost was $165.00 plus my shipping cost.

Thx

Thx Mike, but they touched your trigger right? The trigger on my old 77 is so good I'd hate for them to muck with it.

I have a Ruger 77 (stainless/laminated) in 7mmMag on the way that will probably end up being a 375 Taylor....... Someday!
