HunterJim- man I like the feel of that lil Hawkey bolt action RCM, now if it was in a standard cal like an 06 or so I'd probably be thinking long and hard.
Spose I could always just have the standard tube abbreciated?
Dober Dober, THe RCM Hawkeye is a handy little rifle, but it definitely is a short action. When I compare it side by side with the Hawkeye African it is like big brother and little brother. The RCM feels like my Steyr Scout, so I think the package will be great for hunting. Montana applications close today, and I mailed in for a combination license this time around. At least this time I have a preference point. Last year I had to get on the elk alternates list when I didn't draw a deer license. The RCM will definitely work in the timber for elk. jim

Ryan, you are going to get at most about 50-60 fps with this improved cartridge, maybe less. Case trimming will almost cease, which is huge. I have a bunch of improved rifles, but mostly because they are way cool as DZ says and I hate case trimming. I also like having something few have.

I see Howa is offering the Model 1500 in 6.5x55mm this year. A fellow gunhead showed me a 6.5RM Ruger 77 that he picked up in a trade a couple of days ago. It's one of the older ones, so he'll probably move it on down the road. I also see Remington 673s in 6.5RM getting cheaper and cheaper. I think I'll buy a Howa if I want another 6.5. Any of you guys owned a Howa before? Regards, Jericho

I agree with sambubba. The 6.5x257 AI is way cool, especialy a 140gr Berger sticking out like a javelin. Practicallity dictates a 6.5x55, but what fun is that?

Like several members have said it is hard to go wrong with a 6.5 in any round I have settled on the 6.5x55 as my favorite I have a Sako two sauers and a Blaser in the 6.5x55 have had a few 260s and 6.5x57s but the 6.5x55 and me really get along well.
I did recently purchase a 6.5x68 recently but have had no time to mess with it.
There are no fleas on the 9.3s.

I'm gonna take a CZ 550 American in 6.5 Swede that I've been playing with along with me this fall chasing pronghorn. The bob always goes, but I wanna also see something fall to the Swede.
It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

Either the 6.5x55 "Swede" or the .260 Remington (a .308 case necked down to .264"). Either one is a more than "adequate" big game cartridge within their range for non-dangerous game.
It's smart to hang around old guys 'cause they know lotsa stuff...

If I was going to wildcat the 6.5/.375 Ruger would be my choice. Not one mention of a 6.5 Ruger. One's on the way. Jim Eh?

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

Coyote Hunter yes I apologize and I missed 7STW's also. Maybe it should have been in Braille. LOL
Jim
P.S. I'm going to use 7mm Dakota brass it may mean less work.
Just my opinion ......and I have so few.
