Hey Everyone,
Any info in regards to my rifle would be greatly appreciated, The info I have gathered from this site so far has become valued information, so thank you in advance.
rifles info; on the barrel: savage 99E series A, westfield, mass 300 savage
reciever: E102XXX (nothing else is on the reciever)
Monte carlo stock and forend
rotory magazine with non-brass catridge count, safety on lever
gun looks brand new, the case finish on the lever is 99%
also, what length of screw should I use for the fore end the prior owner used that whole to place the swivel screw.
I suspect that this rifle may have been a rebuild or the factory threw a gun together before converting 100% to the next series.
I paid $425 at Cabelas and it is the only firearm I have ever picked up and refused to release until confirmation of purchase, exact words to wife "I don't know whats in the account, but I'm not releasing this rifle until it's mine", sometimes you just have to get gradeschool to get what you want.
It pretty much delivers a 150grn bullet from 50 - 200 yards wherever the shooter places the crosshairs. I have around 200 rounds through it. I can't wait to hunt with it, I have a bull elk tag for this fall.
Thanks for any info, God Bless

Welcome to the group. Production would have been the 1st half of 1983. I assume it is a .308? Does it have a counter? Your rifle style came out in `81 and ran till the end in `84. Enjoy!

I don't know about the screw, but 150gr out of a 300 Savage is a good choice for hunting. Take a good bullet hunting and you should do just fine on the elk. Good luck!

Everything you now do is something you have chosen to do. Some people don't want to believe that. But if you're over age twenty-one, your life is what you're making of it. To change your life, you need to change your priorities.

Thanks guys,
It is in 300 savage, I've been using the remington core lokts 150grn so far, I originaly ran some winchester & federal 150s but as soon as I switched to the remingtons my groups are the size of a 50 cent piece.

If I were going after elk with my .300 Savage, I'd go to the 165 grain Nosler Partition bullet @ 2600 fps using 42.7 gr. RL 15... a maximum load given in a well-known reloading book... approach with caution.
It's smart to hang around old guys 'cause they know lotsa stuff...

Heckthomas: i also have a 99E series A in .308. the foreend screw is 8/40. i wish the former owner of my gun had installed the uncle mike's front swivel stud that replaced the forearm screw. instead that smart person drilled out the forearm (crooked) and installed a stud with escutcheon. i filled the hole and will make a uncle mike's style screw someday. a strange thing however: the forearm block that the screw goes into is drilled at an angle, about 15 degrees. a fast forearm fitting feature? I would recommend leaving your um's forearm swivel stud in place for a sling when hunting as a sling comes in handy. good luck with yours.
