Generally I don't think much of Simmons scopes but the other day I looked at a Whitetail Expedition model in 6-18 power. The Whitetail Exp is supposed to be their top-of-the-line scopes and I must admit it looked pretty good. Anyone here have field experience with this line? I am wondering about low light conditions. Am considering the scope for a bolt action .22 that I shoot off the bench pretty regular plus hunt small game with. Any opinions here?
You see in this world, there's two kinds of people my friend; those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Larry-Have been watching your thread for a few days now as my "DGR rifles" has a similar question. I will tell you this, I purchased a Simmons WA 4-10 scope for my 8MM Magnum 13 years ago, and after lots of use and hundreds of rounds functions just fine. A lot of people tend to denigrate Simmons, but this particular scope has been just fine. I also have a Bushnell Scopechief that spent a week underwater 18 years ago and jsut this year has become a little fuzzy. It is at Bushnell right now. Recently bought a Bushnell Elite 3200 2-7 and 3-9 and think they are just great for the money. Interested in a Whitetail Expedition 1.5-6x for my 444, but everybody says get a 4x--don't want a fixed. Anyhow that's my thoughts-Karl

Karl, Get the 1.5x6 for your 444. I have one on my 375 Marlin and will be getting more for my 35 Rem. & 444 Marlin. Clear, bright, and compact/light. The only thing would be the 3" eye relief on the 444. No problem with eye relief so far on the 375. This scope seems clearer than my Simmons Pro 50! Den-Den

I have a White Tail Expedition on my Sig 300Mag. Took it to Africa in the summer and it performed extremely well. I had a Leupold on my .375. I liked the wider angle of view and the longer eye relief on the Simmons, so I used the 300 mag on everything but my Wildebeest. The glass seemed sharper, too. I have not used it in real cold weather, but my experience has convinced me to buy another one for another rifle I need scoped.

Glad to hear of some good reports on the Simmons Whitetail Expedition. Mine (a 6x18x42mm) is back at Simmons for the second time.

Right off the bat, new out of the box I had to send mine in. When I was going to bore sight it, when I screwed the windage turret counter-clockwise, the entire housing that the turrett attaches to was unscrewing from the scope. I sent it to Simmons, and received it back two weeks ago.

Mounted it up on my Ruger MK77RFP MKII in .223, and headed to sight it in. Couldn't make it clear. Then I noticed that at 100 yards (with the AO set at 100 yards) I could move the crosshairs 3" on the target by moving my head. Finally got that problem solved, but ended up having to set the AO to the Infinity setting. With the AO set this way, I could get it clear, but only at 100 yards.

Sent it back to Simmons, and am still waiting. The customer service representative (Toni Knight) told me she would send me a NEW Scope this time.

This is the 3rd Simmons scope I have had, and the 1st one I have ever had any problems with. The other two, a 4.5x14x40mm Whitetail Classic, and a 6.5x20x44mm 44 Mag have performed flawlessly. My cousin has used Simmons Scopes for many years. Yes he has had some problems, and has had to send a couple in for repair, but Simmons has always treated him right. (One time he sent in a 3x10x44mm 44 Mag in for repair, and they sent him back a NEW 2.8x10x44mm ATEC in its place for no added charge.)

Will I buy another Simmons, YES, in fact I am going to be getting a 2.8x10x44mm ATEC for my Ruger .300 Win Mag.

Larry

Larry ...Simmons ? Buy the Aetec, period. I've got both the 2.8-10, and the 3.8-12, ... in addition to a couple of Nikon's UCC Monarch, Leupolds Vx3's. The Aetec is Good shtuff for the money! Even on heavy kickers like 7 and 300 Mags. My 2.8-10 even went 70 rounds on my .375HH. No problems, long eye-relief, and WIDE field of view...Sparkman
