Can anybody recommend a powder & quantity to use with Sierra
125 Gr spitzer (#2120) bullets. Manuals I have assume 30-30
rifles have tubular magazines which require flat nosed bullets.

I recently got a Stevens 325-b rifle which has a clip magazine
which will allow use of pointed bullets.

The rifle will be a truck gun with iron sights & hopefully will take some fairly close chucks, & since I've got $110 and a few
hours work fixing a couple cracks & refinishing the stock, I
won't be too upset if it gets nocked around some.

TIA,
Al

Pet loads is a book done by Ken Waters. It is a compilation of the pet load articles that appear in Handloader Magazine. It used to be a pair of seperate books. Now it is just 1 thick book. google "Pet Loads" and you'll come up with it. 30-30 ain't a good moose gun though. grin grin Here, I did it for you.

Thanks. .338 Winchester magnum IS a great gun for that job...
but you know that, don't you. We both have good taste.

I hate to spend $44 for a book I'll probably never use except
for this one application.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but your over-all length will have to be short enough to load in the magazine which will likely mean seating the bullet so deep into the long 30-30 neck that the ogive will end down in the neck. Thirty-thirty's were designed for 30-30 bullets, and it ain't easy to get around that.

use some other bullet.

Idorado, always good to watch COAL, but he wants to use 125 Gr bullets. I don't think the bullet will be long enough to be a problem.

you are right 125 and 110 bullets are no problem as to length in a 30-30 bolt, if you are going to use it for varnits try the 110 they take varmits out like lightning. (will also take deer with carefully paced shots) grin

Al, IF you got this book, it would definately NOT be a 1 time use. There's a TON of good reading. Now you kknow what 1 vendor charges, just watch eBay or yard sales, used book shops, or just place a want add on the free classifided. I'll bet you can find one. They're not rare.

I agree, I've spent hours reading that book. Lots of history and load data. Some of the powders are dis-continued now, but still a useful read.

Try Accurate Powders. They have several loads for the lighter wgt gr bullets for the 30-30. I use 246035.0 for a 130gr ssp this is going @2165fps. I had the same problem finding loads for pointed bullets. You might also have to check on 30-30 pistol loads. They suggest4064 34.2 for 2225fps and38.0 for 2529fps cart.length is 2.430"
