Most pistols are at their worse for function and smoothness when new. I am suprised how customers want to evaluate a handgun that is new in the case as it bears little on how the pistol will function once it is thoroughly broken in. A prime example is the XD series. Those XDs with over 3,000 rounds fired are significantly better in trigger pull and accuracy than new ones in my experience. The slide becomes butter smooth. I believe this is a pattern for most pistols. Certainly, 1911s become "seasoned" the more they are used.

I have several pistols with over 20,000 rounds through them and wouldn't consider a straight trade for a new one, there is that much difference.

For those of you with high mileage pistols, how many rounds did you fire before you felt it to be broken in? Or, could you tell the difference in function, smoothness or accuracy?
