Hey Guys,
I just replaced the screw on the forearm of my 99E, It's nice and snug however I left about -1/64" of play between the barrel and the forearm, My thought was first "don't tighten to where the wood splits" and second I thought this might offer a little along the lines of a free floated barrel, is this alright?
Also, are the savage screws all the same diameter/thread?
thanks again

You want to firm up the forearm but definitely not over do it. If you think that the forearm might be putting too much pressure on the barrel and affecting your accuracy, you might try a small o-ring to provide some separation. Easy to put in and take out, and no change to the rifle is necessary.

Also, are the savage screws all the same diameter/thread? No, but you need to be more specific with the question. Forearm screws are all #8-40 but different lengths.

Forearm screws, is what I meant :), so besides the OAL they all use the same thread, good deal.
