Hi,
I got an old steel tubed KV 2.75-5 variable scope off ebay about 2 years ago. It works OK, although I can see a couple scratches/blemishes on the glass. It has fine crosshairs and they stay on the POI if you change the power.... Aesthetically it's not great... no bad dings in the metal, but the blueing is worn off the edges etc...
The scope is on a 1945 Enfield carbine, and the old weaver doesn't seem too out of place on it. Seems more appropriate than a new piece of plastic. Last year or so, I got the name and address of a repair service operating out of El Paso that specializes repairing/rebuilding the old weavers.
So, the question is, what benefit (if any) would I get by sending it off to have it refurbished? It's functional now, so should I just use it and leave well enough alone?
It would be nice to have a duplex reticile in it (some thicker lines would be nice when the light is down). Is this something that they can change out if they're "refurbishing" the scope?
Do they do anything with the aesthetics of the scope (re-blue or whatever)?
Any experience you can relay about the El Paso outfit is appreciated.
Thx,
Brent

Sorry, I tried to call that El Paso outfit and got instead a lady who didn't speak English.
I took Weaver's trade-in for a new "Weaver" model, and think it's a good deal. That wasn't what you asked, however.

I've owned a few KVs and I found the non-centered reticles to be annoying. It will only take a phone call to El Paso to find out if they will, or even can, do what you'd like to have done.

I have had a couple of scope redone. The cost for cleaning and recharging, as I recall, was $75 for a V7 and a V12. For my money, a new Weaver RV7 or Nikon ProStaff for around $125 is a better way to spend a $. Better glass, better coating, newer technology, etc., etc.

thanks for the responses... I had called the el paso outfit last week, but need to call back. They were gonna check what parts were still available for my particular model. We'll see what they say, but I agree, now I feel more inclinded to just use it as is until I get the urge to buy a new mid-power scope.
I also have a near new condition weaver K2.5 that isn't doing anything... so I could always mount it if I wanted to try a smaller scope in mucho prettier condition.
