I'm looking to buy a stainless 6" 357 with adjustable sights. It is either going to be a Ruger GP 100, or a S&W 686. I've got a buddy with a 686 w/worked trigger and it is awesome. I've also read that the Ruger triggers can be worked on to smooth them out.

I don't have a paticular loyalty, but I'm leaning towards the Ruger as it is something different than my buddy has, and it seems to fit my hand a touch better.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

Yeah, but you and your buddy could get into a hassle over a woman and you'd be stuck with a Ruger...

I'd go with the M686 - generally more accurate, smoother, and much more elegant. More custom options including barrels, stocks, sights, hammers, triggers and springs.

The M686 is plenty slick right out of the box, but it's nice to know you can upgrade or customize to your liking.

Oh yeah, more holsters.

If you shoot competitively, S&W has a much faster trigger return (stick with a 4-in. 6-shooter to keep IDPA-legal).

Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense.

IMHO JOG got that one right. Rugers are nice, and tough. But there is less you need to do to a Smith, with the option of being able to do much more.

Thanks for the replies. You guys are pretty much confirming what I already knew.

Must agree with S&W. I have both but I'll take the 686 any day.

bersh,

The 686 hands down. Get the 686+ and have a 7-shooter.
