As Blaine said, I have little regard for the Coil Check. It is a huge, heavy, cumbersome stock, the rifle is poorly balanced, and it feels like you are going to drop the rifle when you carry it. IMHO not desired features in a hunting rifle.
The rubber covered Hogue does soak up a lot of recoil. Blaine's 416 is a piece of cake to shoot in the Hogue, and a friend here has a 375 Ackley (A noted kicker) in a Hogue. Recoil is very easy.
If you buy the Hogue, be sure to order the one with the internal aluminum framework/bedding block.
Another option would be a McMillan, with one mercury recoil reducer epoxied in the butt, and a Pachmayr Triple Mag 990 recoil pad.
The best way to get used to the 300's recoil? Shoot some of the heavies, like 416 Rem, 458 Lott, 450 Dakota, etc. Then you will hardly notice the 300's recoil.
