Looking for opinions on the 602 vs current CZ, workmanship, quality, what each is fetching as a used rifle, would probably change 602 safety to a bolt shroud safety, I am looking at a used 602 shortly

602...better made and better finish. BUT! They have backazzwards safties. shocked

CZ...better design for the average guy. Both mine were highly accurate.

Not familiar with the 602 but I am pretty happy with my new CZ 550 magnum. It is well built, finished and pretty accurate.

I liked my BRNO M602 .375 H&H, but after my first hunt with in in Namibia I "fired" the safety. Replacement was a M70 style.

Also the M602 came with two triggers, I recommend going with the fixed trigger and leaving the set trigger in the little green cloth bag (assuming it is a complete rifle wink ).

Early 602s had a clever popup peepsight in the receiver bridge. I owned one decades back, a .375, foolishly sold it.

I have a 602 in 375 and a CZ 550 in 416Rigby. I prefer the 602 regular trigger but have no complaint with the safety. I use both with no trouble. I don't see any large difference in quality. I put a Brockman Laminate on my 416 but really like the original stock on the 602. It fits me perfectly. I have cut the barrels on both to 21" and installed new front ramps and sights and barrel band swivels.

I'm having my CZ Safari Classic in 375 H&H modified with Ed Plummer's CZ #1 upgrade kit, seems like a reasonable solution for a reasonably priced rifle.

602 hands down, and its an investment that will maintain its value the new CZs will not do that.

I like the slimmer stock on the 602's and actually prefer the backwards safeties as they operate like pulling a hammer back and leaves your thumb where it needs to be. However If you switch back and forth between safety types it can become a serious liability problem under stress .

Roger to what Phil S. says about safety operation. I changed my M602 to a M70 type safety to match my other rifles. Here it is after Jim Brockman put his iron sights on a Lothar-Walther 24" barrel.

Right on Phil, the 602 is just a nicer rifle.

Old thread, but on a related note, does anyone know what options are available to install a safety on a 602 that works in the normal direction?

Thanks, I’ll contact him. I want to say I thought I heard he was retired, but will check with him directly.
