Went hunting Saturday.
I didnt get to take a shot, but my business partner and freind did.
He shot a nice Axis deer.
250LBS on the hoof.
shot it from 140 yards with an HD 308, 175gr Matchking.
The bullet went just behind the shoulder, taking both lungs and the heart. Exit wound was elongated and about 1.5" by 2.0" it ran slowly for 50 yards and stopped, almost un impressed by the 308 hit. Clay shot it again at 190 yards, the bullet striking the base of the skull, killing it instantly.

My 6 year old son who went with us holding one of the antlers!
I was very proud he did so well and was very interested in the gutting and stuff!

That is one very nice Axis buck...Congrats to Clay on a nice trophy and some very good venison to eat. The ceniza bush on the left looks very healthy and I see the mesquite leaves have not totally fallen yet. Same here. Whereabouts were you hunting! And good on you for taking your young feller along. Can't be too young to get 'um started. That is certainly a big enough Axis to have mounted. Is Clay going to do a full head mount or just the antlers.....?

He is going to have the horns mounted and the hide tanned.

When gutting, he didnt even think about doing a shoulder mount, so he cut too high on ther chest.

The lease is in the Del Rio area

Man, what a nice animal. That hide is just too gorgeous. I gotta get one.

Buck didn't seem to approve of that skull shot, judging by the expression in the pic!!
