I live in Canada and just shelled out $500 for this immaculate Savage 99C in .308. It was made in 1980 and has a 22" barrel and is still all original. The owner fired like 20 shots with it and put it away, just oiled it a couple times a year. Only one tiny "safe kiss" mark on the wood otherwise mint condition!! I cant wait to hunt deer and moose with her this fall!! Im Pumped!!

That is a really clean rifle. Good luck with her this fall. Chip

You'll enjoy it. My first few seasons were with a 99C in 284, and those guns work just fine.

I keep saying (kick me if you get tired of hearing it), some of the best deals in a hunting rifle can be found in the Savage 99. That's one great hunting rifle for not a ton of cash. Drop a fixed power Leupold scope on there and you're well under $1,000.00 for a world class hunting rifle.

Well I finally got her in my hands, it feels very nice to me and shoulders fast enough. It does feel a little strange as I have never owned a lever action before, let alone a Savage 99. I think I may leave it with open sights for a season of deer and moose. I also noticed a little "creeking and clicking" in the forend when I torqued it side to side. I tightened the one stock sqrew underneith and it seemed to bring it in a little tighter but the is still a tiny bit of movement in the fore-stock, is this normal or should I get it looked at?? Here are a couple more pics in better light!!

Wow... no matter anything else, that's worth it for the wood alone. You sure you want to take it out in the field? grin

Nice find! I love the way the wood looks in that first photo. Take it hunting, that's what it was made for. Good luck. -Tom

Welcome to the fire. That's some nice wood. Have you been advised yet that, like potato chips, you can't have just one? I started with a post mil A in 308. Way past that now.

The fore end movement is normal. Before messing with the screw shoot it off of bags for accuracy checks with the receiver resting on the bags. Then rest it on the fore end and shoot. If nothing changes you're good to go.
