I am curious about peoples experience with the recoil difference between the .375 H&H and the 9.3x62. I have looked at recoil tables and some seem to show that .375 is about 1/3 more than 9.3 x 62.. True in real life?

IMO, if you keep both the guns similar the 375 will have more bounce. I mean hey you're talking about a big mag case vs a 06 case necked up to 9.3, of course it's gonna have more to it.

The 9.3x62 is capable of shooting side by side with the 375 H&H with handloads..A 9.3 will push a 320 gr. Woodlieh to 2400 FPS as compared to a .375 pushing a 300 gr. bullet at 2500 FPS..As you can see the recoil would be about the same all things equal..

A lot of 9.3 stuff is underloaded, thus the recoil is somewhat less than a .375 H&H...

Both are excellent calibers and qualify for dangerous game IMO, but I suppose I prefer the .375 H&H, having used both on Cape Buffalo..

I handload for both, but haven't so far used any bullets heavier than 270 grains in the .375 and heavier than 286 in the 9.3x62. With loads in the upper range shown in the reloading manuals that I use, the .375 does have noticeably more recoil, but I would not guess that it is a third more. Since I had been shooting my .375s for several years before I acquired a 9.3x62, I don't find the recoil of either objectionable.

I actually get most of my "try" loads from Load From a Disk and check them against the reloading manuals just to be sure...

Mark R Dobrenski - Very true! My RSM in .375 is on the heavier side but it's a real pleasure to shoot, even off the bench! My .35 Whelen is about 2 pounds lighter and with 250 gr Partitions lets me know I've pulled the trigger! I love'em both!

Is there any ammo manufacturer that has .375 ammo in milder versions for non critical situations... like target or hog hunting?

Try PMC. At least for me, they tend to run a little slower than some other brands, for a more reasonable price.

There is a noticeable difference, but neither is a particularly hard kicker.

You can always load the .375 down to a 35 Remington or lower if you want..If you don't handload someone will do it for you..I have shot pigs and a few deer with a .375 and lead bullets at about 1800 FPS and it worked well enough.

I sure do like the looks of the CZ 550 FS in 9.3 x 62. It's got some character. From what I have seen on here you might loose 50 fs in velocity by having the 3" shorter barrel over the CZ 550 American. I have not a fan of recoil so the .375 is probably more than I want anyway. At least for now..

The CZ's are fairly heavy. To me recoil is about like a lighter weight .30-06 with stout 180-grain loads. With 286's and Ramshot Big Game, they will run right at 2500 fps out of the longer barrel, meaning the difference between it and the .375 is 14 grains of bullet weight.

Sure,

And you could put a governor on an Indy racer too, but who would want to? The whole concept of the 375 is to reach out and kill something very, very, DRT. Like puttin' water in a good double malt whiskey. yuk

I love the 9.3. Used it on bison with amazing results and find it has less recoil than 375.
