I think it will be a 375 based on the suggestions here.

If it were me and I was going factory, no ma doubt I'd be for going with the 375 Rugger in a Hawkeye, it's one of the sweetest feeling rigs I've found out there.
That I can think of, factory 375's of about any sort are just too darn heavy. The Hawkeye for me feels very darn good, although I'd prefer it to be without the irons on it.
Just my thoughts

Ringman: We have a friend with a braked .300 Jarrett. When the brakes off it's not bad noise wise. With the brake on we give him a 4 bench cushion. One bench away and you feel the blast hit you. It will hurt your ears even with muffs on. Dam ugly sounding thing. Wouldn't own one for 1 minute. Your experience obviously is different and different brakes respond differently.

Don't mind him showing up tho, because when he arrives and starts shooting just about about everyone else leaves because of the noise!!

I'd sure second Dober on the 375 Hawkeye if going with a factory gun , that is one beautiful feelin' rifle . Dober , I should get out one day and play with some 300 grainers in my Roy , just to see what it will do.....but when you get right down to it , I'll never need more than the 260 s for anything I'll get to hunt . If ya are ever on the Nosler site , check out their factory loads for the 375 Roy......260 accus rated at 3000 , and 300 partitions 2800.....not exactly econo priced ammo though(grin)

SD-when I get my paws on some 300's I'm gonna try em just the same. Although I will willingly admit it is a want and surely not a need as I feel the same as you do about the 260's.
If you find them for sale anywhere please give me the heads up if you think of it.

Well you folks have valid points...what to do...what to do??
My brother has expressed an interest in making a clone to my 300ultra. So if I sell him the rifle, I may just purchase a factory rig. I want to check availability and options of the 375ultra or H&H.
Any recommendations in factory offerings? I'd look at a 375 Ruger Hawkeye or a Remington 700 XCR 375 H&H. Both are really nice rifles.

Had a Hawkeye African that I liked very much but had to sell for med bills. I kept my FN/Sako 375 Roy, however, as it just seems perfect for the 3/8" tube. I killed my elk this year with 260 Accu Bonds at 2950 fps and load 300 Noslers PTs right at 2,800... I curse the gun's weight...until I pull the trigger. This gun is hands down the most accurate of the 4 different 375 I have/have had recently. If I had to decide which 375 to buy/build it would be between the 375 Ruger and a 375 Wby. The Ruger makes more sense these days, as it is a current factory round, while 375 Wby brass is hard to find and expensive if needed for the Wby head stamp...cheap using 375 H&H brass. Try to find factory ammo, too. I'd lean toward the Ruger to facilitate a trim and light 375. I carry them a lot more than I spend time at the bench.

I've had exactly one box of factory Weatherby ammo with the 300 gr partitions.......they clock right on 2800 fps out of my 24 inch barrel . Funny , the recoil don't feel much different than 260s/270 at 2900 to 3000 . I expect a 300 gr Accu would hammer a big elk waay out there , but I've found those 260 s ain't too shabby neither. But if I didn't have my current Roy , I would go for a 375 Hawkeye in a heartbeat. I'd expect an RUM in one of the light barreled 700 s would be a real killer on at least one end(grin)
Bob , I'm in the process of setting up a 30 wsm for my "geezerhood" gun , the thing is though , being alot lighter , it seems to buck about as much as the old 3/8 s Roy .

Iwould recommend the 338 edge. Amazing accuracy and more capacity than the ultra.

How come this thread is about the 338 RUM and everyone is talking about 375's? Carmicle: I am unfamiliar with the Edge or the RUM. I understand the Edge is based on the RUM so how come it has more capacity and is more accurate? Just curious and appreciate the info.

Bobin the factory offering in the 338RUM has a smaller case than the 300 and 7mm RUM. The edge is using the 300RUM and necking it up to accept the .338 ball. I believe the Edge is around 6-7% larger capacity over the 338 RUM.
