recently read an article in NASA Tech Briefs (engineering techie type magazine). The MPK Co. (website at glowpaint.com) has a new material that is supposed to be inexpensive and light producing 24/7 for 12 years. This in itself is neat, but not earth shaking - until you get to the part about being equivalent to a 20 (and possibly soon a 40) watt light bulb. No batteries to lug around or recharge. I've sent E-mails to them about some camping type ideas and a request for how and where to acquire some of the material - if and when I hear back I'll post. this is the home site and the NTB article. www.glowpaint.comhttp://www.techbriefs.com/content/view/2731/36/

Im guessing it might be a while before its found at Home Depot...
God bless NASA and their paint. When Vandenburg AFB was building the slick 6 launch facility for west coast shuttle launches they were using some paint they said would never peel or fade. We painted some steel fence post about 20years ago and they still have not shown a single speck of rust or corrosion. When the dirt is removed they look like they were painted yesterday. The same stuff was used on some armor plate at a local range and the plates were bent and unusable before the paint crapped out.

don't know if it still holds true, but used to 1 cent of every Fed tax dollar went to NASA, pile of pennies I'm thinking.

Technically NASA didn't come up with it - they just held the contest. The inventor just entered it with this product. Apparently (according to the patent documentation) they are not the only ones to have such a product...they just make the claim that theirs works better.
