I would appreciate a recommendation on a good factory cartridge for a .270W I've got a Sako Finnbear coming and want to get ready for the range!

Lots of quality offerings out there. It's going to come down to what your rifle likes best. Maybe start with Federal Premiums loaded w/ 130gr TSX's. Or if you want a heavier bullet, Federal also loads 150gr Partitions for the 270 Win.

I would start with 150gr and if it does not like that go down 10gr or 20gr. 150gr Partition is a good one to start at.

Try Winchester Super X Power Points, 130 or 150 grain.
One can never go wrong with the Partition either, just a good bit more expensive.

If you can find a box of Winchester Supreme 140gr Failsafes, I would buy them up. They have shot with every 270win i have seen.

My sako likes the federal 140 accubond. So far 4 whitetails, 3 antelope and 1 mulie have fallen to this combo. Works for me.

The most accurate factory load I have tried in my .270 WIN M70FW is the Winchester Supreme 130 grain Ballistic SilverTip.

In factory loadings, that's about as good as it gets.

Snag-you looking for ideas just for paper punchin and or for serious hunt work? And if hunting then I'd ask hunting for what?

I shoot 55.5 grains of IMR 4350 with a 130 grain nosler partition. It has worked well from 20 yards out to about 250. I would reccomend that if whitetail are your game.

Which guns shop a factory load loaded like this anyway...

Unless you plan on shooting critters larger than big Muley bucks, a 130 grain Partition will make things DRT and ASAP.

Agree with Wayne..the Federal factory load with the 130 Partition may be all you'll need. I like the 130 Fusion also;holds together well and accurate to boot.

I agree on the 130 part. If you decide to handload, you can never go wrong with 54gr I4350. It's like a magic load...shoots the same with Horn 130's..I can switch primers and cases..in 2 different winchesters, one pre-64, and one classic. IMO

i shot my sako 85 finnlight 270 this weekend with hornady sst 130 gr and as always very tight groups, its the most accurate in my gun, and i only shoot whitetails with the 270. works great for me.

Snag, I take it that you don�t reload, so get a box Winchester Super X Power Points, 130 and/or 150 grain. Then try the Federal�s if you want tougher bullet, i.e. Partition or TSX. Thru the years I have also used Remington, Nosler and Hornady factory loads.
I really like the .277 calibers, I have two .270 Wins and a .270 Weatherby.
One of my .270 Wins shoots so well with 130 gr Power Points it is almost not worth reloading for.

what cole k said, 130 grain WW powerpoints will kill any deer you hit in a reasonable spot. They shot well less than an inch from my .270

For deer, I had good results with factory federal 150 partitions, Remington 130 core lockt's, Win 130 power points and Hornady 130 spire points. Those shot well and very effective on deer.

The only factory ammo my 270 did not like was Federal trophy bonded.

I am currently loading 130 core lockt's. They shot great and are very effective on whitetail. A box of 100 is really cheap.

Federal Fusion loads have been very accurate in a couple rifles that I have shot them in, my father's .270 was one of them. Also, as expensive as factory loads are becoming, the price is quite nice. Very good, bonded bullets.

Federal Fusion shoots well in my gun.
