Looking at this gun, is it just a T 3 with a cut barrel or what is special here? Looking for a short barreled 06, but this gun even cost more than a T 3.

If I remember correctly the Big Boar has some kind of sight arrangement similar to express sights only not as attactive. That may be one reason for the higher prices and demand and limited production is likely another.

If you want a short barreled '06, why not get a 308? There are more of those available for the reason that a short barreled '06 becomes a 308 ballistically.

Coal-I had one for a short bit, never shot it, wish to heck I'd of kept it.....I hate it when I do that.

Scoped it was 7 lbs in an 06 and it has no sights.

Why the price diff I don't know, I do know that the short barrel 06 will still have the same ballistic advantage over a short barrel 308.

If you like, I'd say get after it, that of buy a std T3 and then have the tube cut (around here it'd be about $50 so).

Best of luck to ya!

It could be the "battue" model: short 20' barrel and battue sights, basically designed for driven hunts:

http://www.tikka.fi/rifles_battue_lite.php

According to european catalog, it is only available on special order for US market.

I have a short barrel on my Blaser, and also own a Ruger Frontier. Love em both! The Ruger is a 16" barrel and is great out to 150.

Ruger Frontier ?

I like short barrels but ask myself if, with such a short barrel, bullet keeps enough speed for its original purposes (not a precision issue of course).

The SAKO web claims its perfect for brush or woods, it does not show sights in the pictures.

It is listed as .308,30-06 and 300 WSM, I enjoy a short barrel when hunting from a tree stand BUT that 300 WSM must have alot of muzzle blast from that 19 inch barrel.

The tikka finnish website does, you just have to draw your cursor over the little cross, close to the picture of the rifle and you'll have a pop up window with a close up picture of the sights.
