I inquired to uger about the availability & production of the 450/400 NE chambered #1. Not that I need one by any means but it's a neat chambering just to have.

The response follows.

Unfortunately, none have been released yet this year. There are none on the
production schedule for this year.

On the bright side...
I put some $ down on a #1 in 9.3X74R a year ago last March...Getting a little antsy I called my dealer about a month ago and asked him if he had any info on this rifle and the 450-400...A call to Ruger according to him was that the 9.3X74R's were scheduled for production in Aug. or Sept. of 2008 and the 450-400's were scheduled for the spring of 2009... whistle

Hmmmm....while I've enjoyed mine over the last year, maybe I ought to go pick up that other one hanging on the gun shop wall and stick it away in the safe for future trading material..... whistle

My dealer just called me last week thinking I wanted a 9.3 (I've had one over a year) as he had just got one in. I have had a 450/400 for a couple of months.

Ruger is bad that way. They'll catalog a gun but sometimes only produce a batch every few years. I waited over 2 years for a single six .32 mag with adjustable sights while they were still cataloged but already out of production. Grrrrrr.

If I really wanted 450/400 performance and couldn't wait I'd see about finding a #1H in .405 WCF and loading it a bit stiff.

Anyone who thinks there's two sides to everything hasn't met a Mbius strip.

I can certainly understand thier method on this though. not exactly a highly sought after model nor is the cartridge itself a popular one. It's defiantly a niche market and a small one at that.
Already got a .405 but just like these odd chamberings.

I was lucky, in that i was able to get, find, and at good prices. Both the 9.3x74 and 450-400NE. I also have a 405 and 458 win. All shoot good and have great wood. Best of luck to those stillhunting for them. 358mt

Here's hoping those looking for one of these can get there hands on one. They are very well balanced, with the barrel taper somewhat less bulky than that on the larger bore 1-H's, such as the .416 Rigby.

As an aside, I notice mine has a shorter front blade than that on my Rigby, just curious if anyone know why Ruger chose to fit them out this way?
