I would like to refinish my Ruger No.1 wood stock set. I would like to remove the grip cap; could anyone comment on how to remove the factory No.1 grip cap?

I am hoping some one here has the answer as I would like to know also

You must drill out the center 'bird' or pry it out to get to the screw.Either way,you must order a replacment from Ruger to snap back in.Good time to look around for a nice replacment with an exposed screw or something engraved..I have a couple color cased hardened.

Looking at the Ruger parts breakout, I could tell about the screw in the cap, but was not sure of how to get to it without marring things up. Finally noticed that the grip cap cover is less than a dollar at Ruger, so should have figured that out it is expendable.

Thanks for the info on how one might approach such. Probably is a good idea about perusing Brownell's for an update cap; case harden types sure have a nice appearance.

Yup, case hardened sure would go well with an old style Win M70 butt-plate also in color case. I watched a pair go on e-bay almost a year ago on the cheap and passed, regrettably.
