Guys had to let ya know I picked up another 35 whelen today in a classic. It has some miles on it but I like it. It'll make a good backup to my CDL 35. I'll probably try 250's in it first to see if it'll shoot em good. Probably the same load I tried in the other rifle. I'll strap a 2-7 Leupold VX-1 on it that I have.

Nice find! I have a M700 Classic that I picked up about 8 years ago and though I have quite a few rifles of different makes and calibers, that M700 in .35 Whelen has really become a "go to" when I can't decide. It has accompanied me to Africa, Alberta, Montana ... you get the picture. Great round, and most of the 700 Classics that I have seen or shot all shot very well indeed.

The checkering looks very good from here. I'm curious why the barrel band sling stud and the forearm sling stud.

My 700 Classic 35 Whelen is topped off with a VXI 2-7. It's a great combo and is extremely accurate. Not uncommon to have .5" groups with 200 Horn SP and 225 BTs.

The checkering is in excellent shape, the bottom metal is not though. I may get new bottom metal or just refinish whats there. The barrel was nasty, I've cleaned it and now working on a load for it. That barrel band would be off but the screw is stripped so I will drill that out. I'll shoot it and decide what to do about the full length bedding. Thanks Guys I just had to show off my new toy. grin

Nice Ray,
I'm on my second Whelen now. I traded the first one off thinking I needed flatter trajectory...........
Back at it again with a M700 Douglas 1/12 @22" 250GR HDY

Good grab. I've several around the front range of Colorado. Most were beat. My old BDL bbled action in an old mountain rifle stock still works fine. I've got an old shorty Vari X-III 1.75-6 on it. Perfect combo.

Thanks fellas, taz you live in a beautiful state, I took my first elk there last year with my 35 Whelen CDL and a 225 gr TSX at a brush popping 300+ yds. One of these may end up in a TI stock. Been really thinkin about that. I loaded some 250's up last night for this coming weekend unless I get a chance sooner grin.

BTW: someone wouldn't happen to have a front sight hood for this thing would they? I'll pay

Let us know how it all works out. If I wasn't so left eye dominant I would have bought one of those when they first came out. The guy that has my old 7600 I bought instead won't trade it back to me!

That's not a barrel band, it's an early prototype of a Harmonic Barrel Balancer thingie! :-)

Nice score.

It liked 250 gr Hornady's. The first load I tried today(only one too). I'm happy with the way it shot, now I'll load some up and run them across the chrony.
