Hope to have three more wildcats done in 04.Working with folks over on AR that are doing a 550 Magnum, and I have a long version call 550HE(Hubel Express),and have rifle for that with a 50cal wildcat barrel that I will get rebored to .550 next month.I am working with Rob and others over there on what we call the 12GA From Hell(Rob picked out the name). Will have those barrels in about 6 weeks.Bridger Bullets is making 12ga slugs in heavy sizes. For my 700 HE I plan on doing it later in the year,Here is picture of cases.First is picture of regular 12ga with the 12GA From Hell.Second is pic of a 458Win,My 458HE,550 HE,and 700HE..Ed.

Ed, that is indeed the 12 gauge from Hell. Is that a plain old Foster slug I see sticking out of the case?

Steve-Yes that is Foster slug.Just for the picture taking. Rob over on AR picked out that great name.Actually We will use much longer ones, mainly Bridger Bullets solids, to start with, and they have the circular grooved sides to keep pressures the same as copper jacketed bullets. You could shoot Fosters but they would have to be down in a ways.We will have folks casting longer ones, and a couple companies will make jacketed ones.Ed.

Ed, Ross Seyfried did a really interesting piece this year on 12 gauge rifles in the Double Gun Journal with a lot of technical info. He tried a bunch of bullet shapes and hardnesses, both with smokeless and black. You might want to take a look.

Badger--This is the big varmint board??On thing about testing is we don't need a scope to see the holes in the target. Steve--A whole bunch of us on AR discussed that article. Ross is one writer who has kept the interest in big bores to the forefront. He helped me get brass for by 458HE wildcat,. He is carrying on Elmer's tradition.

Ed, I think Seyfried is about the best of the current crop, and you have to admit he's a much better writer than Elmer who, despite all his knowledge was barely literate and an editor's nightmare. Reading his unedited correspondence gives you a little insight into how hard the editors at G&A had to work to get his copy cleaned up <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> I've acquired the double rifle addiction, and have really enjoyed Ross' pieces in DGJ and elsewhere on the older weapons and how to get them back in the field. My double is two years shy of 100 and is still minute of tennis ball.

Steve- Is there anyway I could get a copy of the article from you? I have a bit of a facination with the 12ga and slugs due to being raised in a shotgun only state.

Pointer, if you'll send me your fax number and email, I'll either fax it or scan it and email it to you. Probably take me a few days to dig up the back issue. the article deals with 12 gauge doubles, both Paradox and fully rifled, as best I recall.

And you guys actually SHOOT these things???? I hope you have the build of William Perry (AKA 'the refrigerator') in order to keep your balance after the shot. Or do you have handy trees of 1 foot diam. or larger to brace the stock?
Looking at those things gives me the willys.. Wow..
