I finally found the Gun Digest article about converting a No.1 to rimfire. I had to hunt for quite a while in friends' reference libraries. The article had some helpful hints; very nice pictures of said converted rifle. A nice article for reference for those so interested in how that gentleman did the conversion in total. Seeing the article was much appreciated here.
In hunting for articles about such things, I ventured into an old American Rifleman magazine archive. Really was refreshing to read descriptive articles that said "here, try this at home; this is the way I did it".........rather than "do not ever do this, have a pro do it for you or just buy it". Guess those were simplier times and a different attitude on doing things. Seemed like at least some authors were open to others ideas on the how to's.
Thanks to those that knew me and contacted me offline, and offered their opinions and methods on three methods of converting a No.1 to rimfire. I am in the process of tearing down the No.1S in 218bee, and building some fixtures to eventually try all three types of conversions on this chassis. I still like the breechblock method the best from a looks point of view, but will execute the other methods eventually just to see how those perform.
