I drew a mule deer tag in unit 12. First year I have applied since they went to the draw statewide.

I did strike out in Nevada however!

I know where you are coming from. Two suggestions come to mind. First, there are a variety of reservation cow elk tags around, relatively cheap. Second, bear tags are still over the counter and the season is long. Calling bears can be very exciting; scouting, experimenting with all sorts of calls, thoroughly checking the called areas for tracks, etc. You never know what might show up. Be sure to take at least one friend to cover your back.

I received word that I was assigned to the Muncy Ranch in AMU 18 which is mostly Socorro County.

Is anyone familiar with the Muncy Ranch, location, antelope info, etc.

Appreciate any info you may be able to give.

Jesse why don't you buy a bear and a cat tag and hunt them this year in your home state? I totally understand your torture over not drawing, been there a many a time. I've hunted NM 6 times over the years, 4 times for deer and 2 for elk. I've seen 2 bear there over 500 lbs. over the years. I see at least one bear every trip I go out there. Get a bear tag and enjoy the fall while scouting new elk or deer territory.....wish I could go with you.....good luck!

I got drawn for 16A cow hunt in late November / early December, and a 23 whitetail tag in early November. Never hunted either area, so will have to get out and scout when I get the time.

I hunted 16A some years ago for deer Lumpia....didn't stay long but I did see a few elk. I think it's a good unit from what I remember. I hunted 24 the same hunt for deer but got snowed out and that's why we wound up in 16A. I do know that there are some awesome Coues deer in 24......so good luck with your scouting. I envy you guys that live there and can scout all year long. Hope you kill a Booner!
