This film is from Finnmark in the northern part of Norway. The man with the dog, a 8 months old West Siberian Laika, is the probably the most experienced bear hunter in Norway.

Seems like he is playing with fire... That was not a small bear.

An experienced bear man, with a sidearm and a young dog in training, going after a bear from a hunted population. Sounds like near 100% safe to me. Wish I was there.

Even little dogs will put a big bear on the run. Odd, but true. The outfitter I guided for in Wyoming used a red heeler that couldn't have weighed 40 lbs to keep grizzlies out of our camp, and she was 100% successful. She would hide in the guide's tent at first scent of a wolf, but took on any bear that came around without a tremor.

The cameraman was breathing a bit hard in that clip grin. But there is no other way to train a dog, than to have it do what it is that it does. There is risk in waking up in the morning.

I'd like to be there to see that as well, and to learn how they train the dogs. When the sound came up and the dog was carrying on, my Lab woke up out of a sound sleep and came nosing around to see what was going on. I did not realize she spoke Norwegian, but I'm sure she understood that dog perfectly grin.

When I was a kid we had a cocker spaniel that treed bears a lot. As long as the bear has a place to go they will run or climb. A cornered one will turn and fight.
