My son is going to the Pantanal wetlands in Brazil next month and needs a digital camera.....will be taking some wildlife pics as well as shots of buddies and stuff like that. He is not a camera bug, and I'm more interested in waterproof and not too expensive than anything else. Suggestions, amigos?

look at the Olympus 700 or 900 something-or-other. it would fit your bill nicely and can be found on Doug's site.

I have an older 700-something an it takes good pics (a little slow). beware of short battery life (I think they all take AA)

We purchased a couple of these , one for Art, one for Riley. Excellent little camera. They get hauled around on the float tubes, on the pontoon boat and up and down rivers in a pocket or backpack or fishing vest. Get ahold of Joel at Cameraland, they offer an excellent deal.

ended up with the Olympus Stylus 770 SW.

Nice little camera....my son is not a photographer at all and it is as much as he needs for this jaunt. This is the kid who went to Paris for three weeks with a brand new digital and used up about two dozen pictures. Just want him to have one, that won't die if he drops it in the marsh. I'll probably use it for a duck hunting camera when he finishes.

thanks for the advice, folks

Before my son left for Brazil with it, we took it in the pool and it really gets pretty good underwater pictures. That's not why I bought it.....just wanted one that wouldn't die from spray in a boat or being dropped in the marsh, but its a cool feature.

Now daughter, who has a little Nikon digital that cost twice as much, wants to trade it in for the waterproof Olympus. Sigh.
