I have a CZ550/AHR .416 Rigby, and I really don't see the point in having more than the single standing leaf on a rifle that has integral scope mounts.

If the scope is coming off, then the range has got to be close.

So unless I'm overlooking some vital need, as far as I can see the folding leaves are just extra parts that only have the potential to be in the wrong position at the wrong time. I'd like to take them off, but without damaging them or the sight base. Has anybody done this?

Also, does anyone make front sight blades in different heights for this rifle? It is accurate and groups well, but shoots nearly 18" high at 50 yards. If I stack two bullseye targets one above the other, I'll hit the upper bull while aiming at the lower.

I don't want to file the rear blade because I'd like the option of easily rezeroing if I change loads. I suppose I could get a spare rear sight blade and start over with a file and cold blue, but I'd rather change the front sight if possible.

Install a taller front sight. This will give you the idea how to calculate the proper height:

I would just put some blue loctite under the front blades; that should prevent them from popping up unexpectedly and if you ever had need of them you could just apply heat to loosen them back up.

As someone stated, Brownells carries the front sights. I installed a red fiber optic one on mine, and it required some pretty good filing to get it to slide in the slot and plunger to pop up. It seems flimsy also. Not what I would expect for a $40 sight.

I kinda had the same school of thought as you, If I am using irons its gonna be close, so the red fiber optic is easier to see. The sight that came with the rifle would be better for longer range work.

Also before you remove the 200-300 yard leaf, make sure you can get it dialed in with the 100 yard leaf and the limited # of avaliable front sights.

The Masterpiece Beads from NECG (http://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/)
will fit the CZ with just a little work with a Dremel tool.
