Anybody winter time fish for smallmouth bass? Other then those warm waters of Florida. We had a real warm weekend with the weather in the 70's and the water temp. in the low 50's.

The fish were biting but it was slow and you had to fish slow, didn't catch any thing over the 15" legal limit, but had a good time. Middle TN. has some very good winter smallmouth lakes, Center Hill, Dale Hollow.

Was that you I saw wadefishing in the Stones River the other day? . Never did fish but had some fun tooling around in the boat looking at the girlies at Center Hill and Percy Priest. C

hunter1960,

I was planning on a trip to Dale around the first weekend of Dec 2003 for some Smallmouth fishing but fell off a ladder while getting a roof ready for shingles and broke my right Humerous. I hadn't been down to Dale for several years and thought I would introduse a friend to the lake and try out some old places. I used to fish the Westmoreland Invitational every December and won a couple of the tournaments and places 2nd 3rd and Bigfish in others. It is also good and very overlooked for Largemouth too! We were thinking about staying in Albany, KY and launching at Ilwill creek. I used to go down to Horse creek and stay but that extra driving kills me when I get close to Dale or Cumberland. Staying in Albany sorta puts you inbetween the two lakes in case you want to change the senery for a day or two. I think the winter is the best time to fish those lakes among some others down that way.

Big C, No that wasn't me in the Stones, but I have waded on the Caney Fork for trout with a fly rod outfit in the winter. You ought to be on Center Hill, when Alan Jackson has his concert in the summer to see the ladies

Hunter, That is when I was there. Last time I went was the year the big storm blew in the day of the show and the rain and waves swamped all the boats that were tied together out on the lake. I can't remember how many boats sank that day, but it was a pretty good number. C

7400, I am sorry to hear about your injury last year. I hope that your better then ever and ready to hunt and fish again. I've never fished the KY. end of Dale Hollow or the KY. part of the river. I've normally put in at the Dam or at Celina in Tn.

I know a fellow I retired from the Army with who's from Monticello, he always say's to get a KY license and go fish on Cumberland lake. later on this month or the first of Feb. the Walleye should start hitting on the lower end of Center Hill. Good luck fishing the rest of the winter and this spring

I get to Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow year round as work permits. I've caught nice Smallmouth from Cumberland(it's 45 miles closer than Dale Hollow) every month of the year! I don't get to Dale Hollow as much as I'd like to!
