Here are the 99s my son and I use.

Top is my 1953, 99R 250-3000, Serial #688xxx
Bottom is my sons EG 300. I can't make out the boss code, possibly a D, but the serial # is a 604xxx
Both are factory drilled for mounts and have seen much carrying. We know some of the history of the 250. It came out of Wyoming and was used to feed my S-I-L family when she was real young, deer, elk and antelope. They bought it used and say it has quite a few elk to it's credit, Pete usually would sneak up close and neck shoot them. The old K-4 that was on it is in need of refurbishing so it is holding up an old 2-7 for now.

Really good post there, Ole270. This is a collector forum and some here have "safe queens" and some have "shooters" they use for hunting--and I'm guilty on both counts .

Good to be reminded that the Savage was there to feed us, and if necessary, to defend us. :)dh

I suppose a guy should have just one Savage rifle. Hunt with it and that would be that. Add one when each child you have is ready for it. Unfortunately, "keep it simple" doesn't fit me very well. But my hat is off to anyone who can keep it simple.

Good, honest rifles with great history. Lot cooler to pass these on to the kids than a safe queen with no history.
