Sure it is 24 inch barrel?

Serial number is way too early for an "EG" I would think...

All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

I have at least three early uncheckered EG's - all have pistol grip stocks, so I would think this is not an EG.

The serial number on the receiver puts it at 1920.. end of the 1899's beginning of the new 99 models.

I didn't think that style of raised ramp was available until after 1926. Is it numbers matching, does it have the proper barrel address?

I didn't ask him to check the numbers on the stocks.

The question is what can you tell about the rifle from the pictures you have been given? There are a couple of things that should jump out at you. Blair has spotted one. What is the history of the rifle? I'm not totally sure of my solution to the questions but I don't think I'm too far wrong. Just interested in seeing how many of you come up with the same answers.

OK, I'll give it a try: my WAG=re-barreled A wearing an early E buttstock. Buttplate looks early E, bbl. configuration doesn't match receiver SN, and I noted an earlier post indicating 99A's were introduced 6-7 years prior to Murray's date. dh or, it,s the earliest E I ever heard of sporting a later A or B bbl.

99 E if it hasn't been said yet, and early model. Notice the straight grip stock, plus the early E's were uncheckered. I would have snatched it up either way. Les

Is it an Early E or a late E, I am looking for the Straight grip with the Schanbel fore-end from the early 20's. Got some pics of it that I can post? That would be great if you do.

It didn't sell the first time, it's up on auction for another go round. I won't be buying it, though I wouldn't mind having it. Got 3 30-30's, and that's enough for a cartridge that really doesn't trip my trigger.

I'm not seeing how it could be an early E with that front sight
