My Google-fu shows you have been asking around.

The best I can do is the savage 1903 Schematic

http://www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=089Zz1903

Even though its a magazine-fed version, it should give you an idea of how most of the parts fit together.

Hello Ojisan. Yes I have been asking around. The 1903 through the 1910 are all the earlier model with the clip magazine. The 1912-1916 are the ones I need and can't find. Savage also made the Savage Fox, Stevens, and some Springfields, but I have not been able to cross-referance any on the Numrich site. The one I have needs a hammer or hammer repair. It was broken sometime in the past and repaired poorly. I would like to find a parts schematic and I'm sure there is one available. The correct one will give me the part name and number. I don't have a problem with understanding how it fits together. I feel sure Numrich has what I need if I can just give them a number. I am going to call them in the A.M. and them to help me. Thanks Jamesan

Ojisan, I think I just found the correct parts schematic. It appears that the Stevens Model 29A and 29B are the same as the 1914. I'll have to study it a while. Jamesan

The Stevens 29A and 29B are not the same as the 1914, the 1903 and 1914 are the same. Here's a picture of a late 1903 and a 1914, I compared an early 1903 to them and it's also the same hammer. Post on the Savage collectors sight if someone doesn't answer here, there are a couple of parts people around who may have what you need. [Linked Image]

Thanks Gene. The one I have is like the one on the lower left. I guess I'd better look some more and closer. As I told Ojisan earlier this is my first OLD gun, and I'm already 70 years old. Better late than never. Thanks alot. James

WOW! Thanks for the images GeneB!

jwm--I bet a Savage 1903 hammer will fit.

GeneB--Maybe its just the photos, but it looks like the 1914 has an elongated receiver to accommodate the shell lifter. That was a nifty bit of engineering to convert the 1903 to tube-fed. Still, its amazing just how many parts the two rifles share.

The hammers are the same as are any parts common between a box magazine fed and a tube fed. Here's some pictures that may answer the question as to receiver sizes -- it's a Savage 1908 1/2 mule. 1/2 is 1903 and 1/2 is 1914 so the average of the 2 is 1908 1/2. The box magazine hits the tube magazine so it can't be seated all the way. I think if the tube magazine were removed this mule could shoot as a reapeater, it will work single shot. I could not assemble the other halves because this is an early 1903 and has a small rounded piece on the bottom of the action release bar and there is no relief machined into the 1914 receiver half for it.

Okay, then I guess the 1914 receiver was contoured quite a bit differently to compensate for the magazine well.

Still, thats even more impressive that the Savage engineers were able to create the 1903, 1914, and autoloading 1912 from quite a few similar parts.

Its also a tribute to Savage that Remington went hammerless for their slide-action rimfire and Winchester created a whole new hammerless model to supplant the 1890/1906.

Savages are insanely underrated
